Star Trek always struck me as having too much arbitrary skepticism to be a good example for that. “What you’re describing is impossible by our understanding of the laws of physics! Yes, I know that seventeen impossible things have already happened to us this month, but surely you must be wrong about this eighteenth impossible thing.”
The better show to get Isakaid into would be Stargate, where General Hammond would accept literally anything that the SG teams reported to him. Actual Episode:
Character: “There’s an invisible monster crawling on the Stargate that only I can see!”
Hammond: “Lockdown the base! Initiate a search. Scan for this creature on all frequencies!”
Though, in Star Gate they literally do establish that they are metaphorically cranking the gain on the detector way the eff up, and accepting a massive false positive rate.
Until they get the iris, they have a nuclear bomb counting down all the time whenever they get an off world activation.
Very metal, and also the sort of setting detail that on first inspection sounds like it does not make any sense at all. Statistically, why haven’t the SGC killed themselves by accident already?
Well, we eventually find out is that almost everything is down to the canonical timeline being an extremely improbable happy path. Which is specifically caused by Tau’ri time traveling, and in particular a significant amount of it is SG1 being that resiliant, thorough, and diligent.
For an ordinary SFF who is also not already an SG1 fan, and who did not travel the slow boiling like a pith frog route, it is reasonable to find this a big ask.
Anyway, my head canon is that you can just cross SG1 over with Campione, and understand that SG1 in particular have the insanity and luck that the Light Novels describe for Campione, but simply have not noticed, and also have not noticed the magical hidden world of the Campione setting.
The absolute best opening premise for a teevee show evah: “That gate that allows instantaneous interstellar travel? Yeah, it only goes one place because Daniel Jackson only found one address that ever did anything, even though the concept of addresses instead of just a ‘go’ button does imply multiple destinations now that I think about it…anyway, Col. O’Neill told us he nuked the other end of that one address, even though he came back alive and not irradiated, so I wonder how he knows for sure… anyway, it’s just a big relic guarded by four air police troopies on a boring detail playing cards…wait, what’s that sound?”
Note if rewatching you MUST suspend any part of your brain that knows anything about military rank, structure, or forms and courtesies, as that pilot episode will make you tear out your hair if you do not. It got better pretty fast.
At some point they got help from the USAF to get uniforms, procedures, etc. as accurate as possible.
Though supposedly (at least according to a general who guest starred on an episode) there are Colonels in the USAF who are stranger than O’Neill. Or worse? Something like that.
But such women do exist. Heck, some women had fantasies about me back in the day, and I’m decidedly in the too weird to exist camp. Plus, Marco’s married. I’d lay odds that she had eyes for him, and still does.
The problem I have is not so much the existence of October Seven apologists, though many or all october seven apologists should probably be killed.
The problem I have is October seven apologists on American campuses, saying globalize the jihad, and explicitly drawing the line to land acknowledgements and to mass murder here. Including both advocating for the imperialist and colonalist mass murder of Americans here by Muslim invaders and for the ‘anti-imperialist’ and ‘anti-colonialist’ mass murder of Americans here by groups that also do not have the shooters to finish the job, and who instead do not want to play that game.
(Some Muslims want to play that game, nobody really has the shooters to pull it off as an actual win.)
Not only does it remove incentives for the public to allow universities to import scholars from Mid-East heavily Muslim countries, it raises doubts about importing scholars from almost all countries.
I mean, if you are talking about Japan alone for relatively sane foreign scholars, the American research enterprise has f&cked itself.
The universities are effectively talking about both sides of their mouths. On the one side, they are part of and for western civilization. On the other they are against it, and alone have the magical power to overturn it.
Americans don’t want to rape and behead the critical theory faculty, or the other activist apologists.
In regards to that cat on the raft (which is photoshopped), I remember a time at which we were on the beach, saw a rogue wave coming, and warned a bunch of people out of the way of the wash, including a picnicking group…
whose pet rabbit was playing a little bit up the bank and was therefore safe.
Because of course they’d bring a pet rabbit to a beach picnic, dontchaknow.
There’s a similar picture that I saw a few days ago. The boys weren’t in it, but it had Amelia, Luce (I think), and Frieren (who angers the Left because she’s very unapologetic about demons not being people, and her attitude that they should be killed on sight), sitting together on a bench and being joined by Malfoid.
I keep seeing Frieren and mentally rewriting it as “Freierin,” which is a German title of nobility. [Technically, Freifrau, but Freierin is also used in some accounts.]
(something that gets alluded to in the story; they travel for a bit with a bard who likes older women, and Frieren keeps teasing him with the detail that she’s centuries old)
A bit of “explain it like I’m five” style context for two of the memes that are D&D/RPG related:
The Death playing D&D for someone’s soul strip is a direct steal from XKCD comic published shortly after Gary Gygax’s death ( https://xkcd.com/393/ ). If the person making it had just acknowledged their source, it would have been cool as XKCD has always been released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 Generic license.
The Jeremy Crawford “Get out there and defeat your bosses today” x/twitter exchange is likely a reference to the news that came out last week that Wizards of the Coast (Hasbro) employees working on Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering were forming a union. (Jeremy Crawford worked at WotC from 2007 to 2025 and was a lead designer on D&D 5E.)
Non-memetic aside from the real world (pedantically, from the real solar system):
SPACE WEATHER ALERT: The planetary K-index has reached a level of 7. A strong G3-class geomagnetic storm is in progress. Updates: Spaceweather.com
Where to look: During G3 storms, auroras may be visible as far south as Illinois and Oregon. In the southern hemisphere, watch from Tasmania and the South Island of New Zealand. Get away from city lights and look toward the pole; give your eyes 15 minutes to adapt.
As much respect as I have for John Wayne, I kinda doubt that he was buying houses for Vietnam War vets the year that the Korean War started.

And now we have news that a sequel series has been handed off to the same woman who made such “hits” as ‘Wandavision’, and ‘Agatha All Along’.
The Stargate fans are not pleased.
