Unusual Events: A “Short” Story Collection
Alaskan adventures. Haunted Hospitals. Something lurking under the kitchen… stove?
Nothing is as it first seems in this new collection of ten thrilling tales from author Max Florschutz. Magic intertwines with the ordinary in five new stories set in the Unusual universe, while in the world of Indrim steam and high fantasy intersect. Elsewhere, men struggle against the elements in the last frontier, a reporter delves deep into the mysteries surrounding her city’s heroic figure, and a young man heads off to war for his people.
Ten fantastic tales of wonder and excitement. It’s nothing ordinary.
It’s Unusual Events.

Beyond the Mist
The Chara Series Book 1
Am I falling or flying? Powerless or mighty? Imprisoned or free?
I have nothing: no possessions, no memories, no reference points or even solid ground to stand on; just falling (or is it flying?) through an endless mist. A voice beside me says this is the last free space in a world of slavery and suffering; another that it’s a self-imposed prison from a world of beauty and adventure. Who should I believe? What is waiting for me out there?
I make my choice and begin to discover what lies beyond the mist.
Declan Finn
Honor at Stake
One is a heartless, merciless killer. The other is a vampire.
College freshman, Amanda Colt knows few people and wants to know fewer still. She enjoys fencing and prefers facing a challenge every once in a while. She is beautiful, smart, and possibly the most interesting person on campus…and most people stop after the first adjective.
Then she finds Marco Catalano in her fencing class. He is tall, attractive, and very intense. With a mind like a computer and manners of a medieval knight, he scares most people. Except Amanda. They both have secrets, for they are both monsters.
As they draw closer, they must find the line between how much they can trust each other, and how much they can care for each other. Each carries a secret that can destroy the other. They must come to grips with their personal drama soon, because a darkness is rising. Bodies are turning up all over New York, and an army of vampires is closing in on all sides.
They have only one hope—each other.

After Noah’s Boy I learned not to open a S. A. Hoyt volume after 5 PM if I had somewhere to be or something to do the next day that required wakefulness. Maybe Baen should put warning labels on the covers, like the “Explicit Lyrics” tags on CDs.

Should I thank you or curse you for this comment, which reminded me that the next round of releases from Baen are available?
