I hadn’t seen the “Schrödinger’s catgirl” story before, so I sent it to my wife. She replied that she’d seen it here and there over the years. I replied, “Whereas I hadn’t. And since we are one flesh, that means we both had and had not seen it… until today when the waveform collapsed.”
Commies can fly. Definitely. It’s quite literally documented and proofed and has many, many peer reviewed sources.

Not only have I survived multiple rides in the open bed of a pickup, I also lived through my uncle spitting tobacco juice out the window and hitting me square in the eye as I peeked around the cab to see how far it was to the asphalt road. Granted, it’s the weaker eye these days, but I start Medicare next month so my astigmatism is more likely to be from age than tobacco.
A cautionary Medicare tale for my fellow ExFed retirees; the rest of you should listen up too.
I’ve been trying to enroll in United HealthCare’s Medicare Advantage plan they offer as part of the Federal Employee Heath Benefits coverage I’ve had for the last 18 years, nine of which have been as a retiree. Despite four calls to UHC since August 14, I’m still not enrolled and can’t do so until December even though I’m eligible in November. It should be breathtakingly simple: I turn 65, UHC moves me to their Medicare Advantage plan automatically since there’s no additional cost to me and I get more benefits than regular Medicare, and if I don’t want it I can drop it or change to another Advantage plan before the deadline in early December.
The problem, you may ask? OPM hasn’t sent UHC my electronic Medicare eligibility record DESPITE the fact that HHS sent my Medicare enrollment card to me in early August. Also, OPM has been paying my pension since 2018 and therefore know (1) my age, (2) I’m retired, and (3) I’m still alive. This is a trivial problem easily solved by a dimwitted freshman computer science undergrad and a relational database script, but obviously the left government hand is too busy defrauding the right hand to actually talk to each other.
UHC says I have to contact OPM to unscrew the problem, yet every time I call the OPM helpline all I get is “We’re too busy to take your call. Try again later, loser!”
And you think bigger government is the solution? Well, bless your heart.
First thing to understand is that the first goal of that program is not to provide satisfactory services in a timely manner to the beneficiaries, but to provide money to the seat warmers administering it who will vote for the politicians who came up with the program.

This is a far more sophisticated version of a tactic Democrats have used in the past: creating fake newspapers delivered to people’s homes, presented as “news” but really PR packages for candidates or parties.
But those were fairly transparent; seeding fake news into AI is not, because AI presents information as if it comes from neutral “news” sources, when in fact it is just laundered propaganda not identified as such.
In much the same way that Google will launder Wikipedia answers as authoritative in its AI summaries, making the left-leaning “editors” at the site extremely powerful in creating a Truman Show reality, the fake “news” sites provide another layer of credibility to campaign propaganda.
“Doing weird things with friends” . . . Like our annual plague doctor party? My friend’s invitation said ‘strict plague doctor aesthetic’, which everyone interpreted differently, but awesomely, and then we ate pizza, took pictures, and went on a jaunt – nay, a procession along Main Street, like the cryptids we aspire to be.

Something that got brought up last weekend was speculation on why Americans and Japanese get along so well. Last week, I saw a post on X that suggested a theory that I think is worth considering.
According to the person posting, the reason why people from the two cultures get along so well is because members of both cultures have very positive outlooks. People in Europe often do not. I think there might be something to that. And if there’s something to that, the question then becomes, “Why?”
I wonder if the reason why is the fallout from World War 2? At the end of the war, the various Axis powers (except for Finland and Thailand) were occupied by the victors. The Eastern European Axis nations were turned into Soviet client states. Germany was divided into four occupation sectors, with the Americans only having one sector. I’m not sure what happened in Italy, but again I’m confident that they weren’t solely occupied by the Americans. Manchuko was returned to China (or more accurately, Mao…).
Japan was occupied exclusively by the US. We can discuss the reasons why elsewhere, but the important thing is that Japan is an island archipelago that is completely cut off from overland entry, and in the immediate post-war era, it was dominated by Americans. And the Americans went out of their way to help the Japanese get back on their feet after the damage that the Americans had done to the country (and note that everyone, including the Japanese, acknowledged that the Americans had been justified in what they did). As someone noted in a comment I read earlier today, Japan was facing starvation at the end of the war, but American troops showed up with food for the people, smiled, and said that things would get better.
You’re most of the way there — but China was returned to Chiang. It was the influence and aid from the USSR that helped Mao occupy most of the country . . .then they were stopped by the Taiwan Strait (as the USSR was blocked from Japan by the Sea of Japan).
Manchuria (Manchuko) was occupied by the Soviets in the last days of the war, and handed pretty much directly to Mao by them. He relocated there with the bulk of the Communist armed forces after the end of the war. The shared border with the USSR made it easy to get supplies to his troops, and as a result it was the perfect place to serve as a staging ground for the civil war that he launched not long afterwards.
Mao’s communists even opened fire on a US warship that tried to approach one of the ports there before the civil war started.
My father hand one of those drills. I tried to find one but failed. I did find the kind that looks like a big crank, with a pad on top you can lean on to apply more pressure. Called a “brace” I think.
I also have a cordless soldering iron: a big hunk of copper mounted on a steel rod. Not so good for working on computer motherboards but will work great if I have to solder copper gutters or stuff like that. Not that I have copper gutters around…
