Yes, that image is the meme that gets assigned the Fudd label.
Following a search I did the other day which uncovered “Fudd versus Batman”, I saw a nice essay on Fudds that attempts to define them as nominal gun people with a narrow and parochial view of guns, and a tendency to support gun control.
It is sorta boomer flavored, in that the original positions mocked were ‘guns are for sport’, and only guns in the older style at that. Wood stocks, etc.
It is basically a niche hobby group’s bitter in-fighting term.
The jokes in the meme are that the Fudd is completely ignorant of changes in law, and that the other person does not have to give him any face.
“Aquele momento…” I’m 63, from Denver (a de facto border town) and attempting to study ecclesiastical Latin. This pidgin meme was readable without squinting.
“The way my cat looked at my new boyfriend…” When I first picked up the now Mrs. G for a date, she wasn’t quite ready. I seated myself on her couch, and her orange girl came out to inspect me. When the Mrs. came out, ready, the cat was asleep on my lap, and I informed her that I could not leave until the cat said it was OK. That’s when she knew I was “the one.”
The “dual hex” gun is an antique “volley gun”. It has two flintlocks. Each fires all seven barrels on that side for a “volley” of shots. So in practical terms (hah!) it is a two shot flintlock gun.
A typical modern 12 gage buckshot shell throws 9 .33 caliber pellets. Loading the modern double shotgun is somewhat less cumbersome.
What’s wrong with me? Do you want to be here all year?

Back in college, I used to work at the computer lab. (This was well before laptops were commonplace). I became locally famous after rescuing at least two people’s term papers off of dying floppy disks, by using a tool (a VERY simple piece of software) that could extract text from binary files. It meant they had to re-do the formatting, but at least they had the text of their term papers, usually with just ONE hole in the text in the part that had landed in the bad sector of the floppy. One person gave a quote to the school newspaper, which ended up getting printed: “I wish I could keep Robin Munn in my pocket and pull him out when I need him.” My parents still remember that quote.
It would have been nice if MS Word had had some sort of “recover what you can” option instead of saying “Welp, file doesn’t match, I give up”. But since they didn’t, I was at least able to fill in the gaps.
I’ve often amused myself by working through four-language warning signs – you may have seen them in chem/bio labs, English, French, Spanish, and German. Pointed out to a fellow student at the time that if you know even a small amount of one Romance language you can make a stab at the other one, and English and German likewise have a lot in common, and anyway you know it all says roughly the same thing….
Bio student looked at me like I’d started declaiming in Latin. Oy.
I’m trying to get my kids to see these bones- weirdly, anime is helping.
Japanese grammar is… well, I just can’t. I can’t even German.
But after years of subbed anime the kids are able to pick up a word or two here and there, and get the idea. Which may sometimes include yelling “HE SAID DIE!!!!”
The other day I mentioned the new Star Wars game, “Zero Company”. It’s a tactical strategy game, similar to X-Com.
In the game, the protagonist’s non-combatant administrative assistant is a Togruta woman (like Ahsoka or Shaak Ti) named Ranu Blask. The game is set during the Clone Wars, and there’s a screen capture floating around of her complaining about the Republic’s “military-industrial complex”.
This has led to two wildly different responses. From the left, you have people cheering on her lambasting of the “fascist” Republic (their words, not hers). The lefties are usually admonished by their fellows who point out that she’s really an anarcho-capitalist (afaik, again their words, not hers), instead of a fellow traveler. Meanwhile, those on the right note how she talks up the free market, and praise her.
It’s amusing to see the dichotomy.
It’s also possible that something changes late in the game, so I’m holding back on becoming fully smitten with her. But otherwise, “Oh, baby, whisper in my ear again about the free market!” :P
Her background is that she both sides in the war have warrants out for her arrest. The Republic is after her because she had a high-ranking position (with numerous perks) in the Trade Federation. The Separatists are after her because she decided she didn’t like the part of her job where she wasn’t allowed to leave. Her current job is a refuge from both sides, though she personally favors the Separatist position (but not the leadership), as she views the Republic as largely a mess of repressive and stultifying corruption that makes things worse for many of its citizens.
Shooting is. There’s even an achievement for missing a 90% or better shot (as well as one for making a 10% or less shot), acknowledging one of the game type’s most infamous tropes.
Actions during combat are somewhat different, though.
I’m with Vlad Țepeș . . . not that that will come as a shock
