What My Commenters Are Up To

Guys,

I’ve been traveling and attending cons, and teaching workshops and–

I’ve been lousy at promoting your stuff.  So, because I’ll probably post late-ish tomorrow, post anything you’re giving away/have recently published/have samples of up, etc in the comments.

  1. What a timely post–my latest book released today. PEACEWEAVER tells the story of a tenth century Welsh woman sold into an unwanted marriage. Love, duty, faith, warfare, Vikings…it’s published by Desert Breeze Oublishing, an e-book available in all known Terran formats.

      1. Martian General Staff format #7 is quite proprietary. Currently, all known examples are in sealed vaults, and the specifics of it are only known to twelve living beings, none of whom ever leave certain security zones on Mars. Not to mention those secretive, paranoid hoarders of knowledge on Mercury.

  2. Well, my most recent short story, “Sirens”, appears in “Love and Darker Passions”, an anthology of dark fantasy and horror tales about relationships just out from Double Dragon Publishing…

  3. Amazon doesn’t have it up yet (they said it was “live” earlier, but they liiiiiied! so I double-checked the data pages for it and that says that it re-publishes, so who knows when it’ll be up…), but I did the 3rd of my Lord Alchemist universe stories. This one was meant to be much simpler than my big ol’ duology, because I was still courting an agent then (lovely agent, I note! Very helpful; I wouldn’t want her to be hostage against me), and is only about 91,500 words of story according to Word. Since I was thinking about the “get in the door with one book, get the odd-format ones published afterward” trick, I tried to make this one standalone. I dunno if it succeeded, but if anyone takes a chance… ;)

Anyway, All That Glitters (thank Thoth you can’t copyright a title!) is $3.99 at Smashwords, and has a 50% sample for those wise folks who try before they buy: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/238269 in all Earthly formats. If the Martians will contact Coker, I’m sure he’ll see about getting their formats added to what the Meatgrinder spits out.

    Smashwords also has my freebies:
    “Sweet Phantom” (Phan-Fic…) — https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/112235, also available at Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JF7HYW ).

“The Legend of the Morning Star” — my attempt at a Greek-myth-inspired story for an AU history (with magic, but that’s not important to the story). https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/61591

“Leaping Lizards” — all-ages SF, with an alien POV. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/60566

Note that while The Bear Prince (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/42569) is not free (99c), I cunningly arranged it so that the first of the three stories it contains is part of the free sample. ;)

  4. I’m still working on the Mammoth Party book, but I’ve got an inflamed elbow at the moment, and HURT. That will delay my finishing it. My right arm (I’m right-handed) is swollen from about mid-bicep to mid-forearm. Not conducive to typing. I just took some medication, and I’m going to follow it up with a nap. Timmy’s with one of his other set of grandparents this weekend, so there won’t be any interference.

      1. Well, my youngest, Sean, had a picnic table flipped over onto his foot last night. No break, but it’s bruised and swollen, and they gave him a “Cast Shoe”, which is basically a large, stiff-soled sandal that will keep his toes from being turned up when he walks.

  5. Zook Country is coming out in trade paper back on December 15th. I’m expecting ARCs very soon. You can a read blurb and samples at http://www.billswears.com/storytelling/, or at http://twilighttimesbooks.com/ZookCountry_ch1.html. Better yet, sample and buy the incredibly inexpensive e-book at either http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007J6DPPA, or for Nook readers like me, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/zook-country-bill-swears/1108892461.

Jake Chestnut and partner Gary Landon own Seraglio, a company hired by a billionaire’s consortium to exterminate zooks – victims of bite delivered metamorphic plague, a fatal disease that turns victims into rabid animals who move so quickly that a normal person can’t see them as they move. Jake must discover why the billionaires paying Seraglio to clear a safe enclave for the elite are suddenly trying to kill his team.

The hardened men and women who hunt zooks have been on the front line of a virtual war for five years, killing monsters who were once people. Entire cities have been depopulated and nobody knows which way the fight for humanity’s survival will go as America and the rest of the world become Zook Country. Jake relays Seraglio’s story with a contagious blend of cynicism and gallows humor as what he learns leads toward civil war.
