Posting 4th of July memes a little early, so you can share your favorites tomorrow!
Tomorrow there might be a regular meme post…. or something else entirely. We’ll see how I greet the day after coffee tomorrow! – SAH

DAY 3 of this blog’s annual fundraiser.
For Give send Go, go here. For paypal go here. For more options and a long explanation of why I fundraise (the last few years, after 15 years of not) other than just “Because Jerry Pournelle ordered me to” and “So my family grumble a little less at early mornings, late nights and working on weekends” (Though that’s part of it!) go here: Toss A Coin To Your Blogger, Oh Readers of Plenty.
I never knew I needed an animated lamia Gadsden flag, but now I need it more than anything.

Maybe there’s going to be a “Let Freedom Ring, The Reverberations” edition, but I saw a meme today. No words, just the now iconic Sophie Cunningham pointing, but she was garbed in and Uncle Sam outfit. Spoke volumes without saying a word.

Was going to complete my latest X-COM 2 campaign on the 4th, but did that yesterday. Started a new one today. Don’t have blaster launchers yet, nor even magnetic weapons. I am researching Resistance Comms/Radio (1st Amendment, after all) and starting the usual campaign start shenanigans.

Happy Independence Day!
Don’t have any real plans myself, probably just going to stay home and continue being grateful that the United States of America came to be…but I did upgrade the flag setup out on the mailbox post to accommodate an America 250 flag, and I’ll be flying both of them all weekend and on flag days for the rest of the year.
Maybe I’ll leave out some cookies for Captain America and some oats for George Washington’s horse if I’m feeling spicy.
Anyway, whatever you do…
Let. Freedom. Ring.

We have a US flag up, first time. Perfect setup. Lights on it at night, as the porch and garage light are on automatically at night. (When weather gets nasty, we’ll see.)
Costco purchase. Costco has had them every year. Just finally pulled the trigger and got one. OTOH getting lights that were off during daylight, came on at night automatically, and stayed on, has been a challenge (despite what boxes stated, motion sensors always worked but not auto continuous on at night settings).

Washington with an eagle and a gatling rocks!

An incantation against tyrants. Yes!
Rattlesnake naga. : )
Totally not kidding, indeed.

There was a meme some years back depicting a SD anime Naga on the Gadsen Flag.

Sadly, I think the museum ships meme says more about how most of the other countries in the world have let their navies lapse than it does about how powerful our own is. When even the British can’t be bothered to build a CATOBARS carrier or three to lead the Royal Navy, you know people are getting lax.
(the French have one, and the Chinese have one undergoing a prolonged shakedown)
LikeLike
I think the Chinese carrier is still doing its shakedown cruise tied to the pier. 😁
Maybe they’re afraid of what would happen if they actually tried to get it under way?

RN is F’d. Longer reply is stuck in mod because I forgot and typed that which shall not be typed.

It’s easier to raise from the bottom if it sinks at the pier. Ahem.

They do have a history of that occurring.
OTOH once underway the captain of the boat is the king of this little kingdom. Heaven forbid Xi lets anyone get any ideas.
Or? And?
I suspect “And”!

IIRC, they’ve taken it out for a short trip or two. More importantly, though, the last I’d heard they were still having trouble with their EM catapults. And by that, I mean more trouble than we are with the ones on the Ford.

The once world spanning RN is deeply F’d. See recent by Cd. Salamander for some in depth, but it’s pretty much unsalvageable at this point, with his majesty’s government deciding to replace their few air defence destroyers with frigates to save money, and they can’t even man or maintain what they have now.

Shouldn’t the meme about a breakup letter show the Declaration rather than the preamble to the Constitution?
Blame it on the aurora, I guess. Stupid aurora.

I befriended a British Padre several years back, an Ulsterman posted to Kabul, but had to leave Afghanistan after just a couple of months. That July I sent him a t-shirt (from America AF) saying “Happy Treason Day, Ungrateful Coloniels” but without Geo. Washington as above. When I checked on his safety (he is OK) just last month when Belfast bubbled over about the third-worlders, he said “I will be digging out my 4th July t-shirt soon.”
And next Sunday I can wish him a Happy Orange Day.

The last is a Falcon 9/Dragon, likely carrying people. A ship lifting for space and the flag of the only country on Earth founded on the principle that government is a problem to be solved by free men and women and not an end in itself.
A beautiful sight, none better.
Happy 250th Birthday, USA.

OK, someone needs to source that Washington quote for me, please. I don’t want to quote it everywhere if it’s just a meme.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, bummer. It IS one of those modern quote things*:
“The quote appears to originate from a modern online pamphlet titled “President George Washington’s Thoughts on Firearms” (Pamphlet #230) from The American Wisdom Series, authored by Joe Spenner in the early 2000s. Mount Vernon, the estate and museum of George Washington, lists this statement on its official website as a spurious quotation falsely attributed to the first U.S. president.”
(* Like Lincoln saying “Don’t trust everything you read on the internet.”)

250 years of being Odd as a nation. The first country founded on the idea that power is loaned by the people to the government, and that we have rights because we are people, not because king or parliament graciously allows us to do certain things. Furthermore, we have the duty to take that power back if the government doesn’t meet our needs. “… Governments are instituted among men deriving their just power from the consent of the governed.” And later: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
That last is one of the scariest parts of the Declaration of Independence, or should be.

Couldn’t get Give-Send-Go to work. I couldn’t add a donation name, told me that the donation name was invalid without saying why, and the continue button posted a message saying that something was invalid without saying what. Not a great experience.
PayPal worked fine. Not sure why I didn’t use that in the first place.
Good luck with the fundraiser – your blog keeps at bay the frustration I feel when talking to people about issues such as climate-change, immigration, energy…
I swear people are brainwashed. I don’t care if they disagree with me, I like a discussion, but a blank dismissal is just frustrating.
