Or maybe not so quick. . . so, the Dragon Awards are open for nominations. And it would be kind of cool, don’t y’all think, for Sarah to be nominated? No Man’s Land for science fiction.

But also, there are lots of other deserving creators this year, a number of them from the weekly and special promo posts. Some of our number don’t even stick to books: you may or may not be aware, MCA Hogarth wrote a game!

The best part about this, from my “creators get paid” perspective, is that Finalists get publicity. Winners get publicity. Publicity gets sales. Sales pay creators. Everyone wins!

So please, no fuss or drama, click over and nominate.

Without suggesting that anyone should not try for a Dragon Award, I do wish to remind everybody that the folks running the Dragon Awards find it perfectly acceptable to announce nominations, then quietly remove a nominee, remain silent on the subject for days (and without contacting the nominee or the nominee’s publisher), and then to declare that there was a Secret Rule (but really an ex post facto rule) that was listed nowhere but which the nominee violated, thus “meriting” removal. And, that being done, they failed to vet the remaining nominees for violating the Secret Rule, and also failed to advance the next person in line to be the new nominee.

    If you want to chase after a Dragon, by all means do so. Just be aware that the people running things lack integrity, have put their thumbs on the scales before in order to target (at least) one nominee (at the urging of party or parties unknown), and have no reason not to do so again.

    Can I use Artificial Intelligence to create any part of my work?

    No.

    This means that if you wrote your book in a modern word processor, it is ineligible. If your cover ever passed through Adobe Photoshop, it is ineligble.

    They will not, of course, treat it that way. The purpose of over-broad rules that disqualify everything is to apply them capriciously and unequally, and have rhetorical cover to claim innocence in doing so.
