Cats do grieve, I’ve seen it. We had a bonded pair Spike and Hurricane. We lost Hurricane at about 10 to a sudden stroke or cardiac infarction (didn’t have the vets look didn’t seem worth $500-800 for a necropsy). Spike would roam about the house to Hurricane’s favorite spots and make the “where are you” call (you know what I mean if you’ve hung out with cats much). If after check the half dozen spots he didn’t find Hurricane (which of course he couldn’t) he’d start to make a horrible noise sort of a caterwauling keening. He barely ate (this in a boy who would always put the feed bag on), and didn’t purr (this in a cat who if you looked at him and said “Spike is a good kitty” would purr like a Cummins diesel). Say what you will but that cat missed his buddy horribly.
Ultimately, we got two new kittens to keep him company. He was dubious of this to say the least, but over time he accepted them. They would cuddle up to him and you could kind of see him thinking “Wait a minute, I’m a boy kitty and neutered, how did I have kittens?” He hung out with them and let them sleep on him even when both of them outmassed him and Spike lived until almost 19 so they added 9 years to his life, and he socialized them nicely.
When we had to put my mother’s cat down, for many weeks after, my Diccon would look in all her usual spots and on not finding her, he’d go to her primary spot, lie down with his chin on his forepaws, and if a cat could shed tears, his paws would have been soaked. And they weren’t even a bonded pair.
The fact that the “Moms demand action” female is way too cute for members of that group broke my suspension of disbelief and threw me right of that meme.
They’re not all purple haired, poorly tattooed, looks like they dove face first into a tackle box and fat as a house. There are women on the left that look conventionally attractive if you don’t hear them talking or see their actions. That latter, though, tells the tale.
On letting family read one’s MS: I gave my dad a copy of one of my WIPs a year or so ago, as an Alpha-Reader sort of thing, and his main assessment was not what I thought it’d be: here’s a paraphrase…
“I’m really concerned about some of the themes here. How’s your prayer life and Bible reading?”
“Um. Could always be better, but what’s that have to do with it?”
“In short, zoophilia.”
“Are we talking about the same book at all, Dad?”
(My MC is half-alien, and his mom’s race look like satyrs. Oy.)

Ive both seen. And heard about, too many grieving animals not to believe in that.
The obe about 4 authors would be even funnier if it was redone with four actual authors, but picking which 4 is tough. I have 3 candidates for the last guy with grrm being the top choice.
Thr one about age verification gets worse, ive just started on linux and learned that there are new laws floating up that the age verification thing is about to go to the OS level. Future windows (and other systems) will require age verification at tye instilation level. So, yeah, this is “for the kids”
No, its to make sure that there will be no way to do ANYTHING with a computer that wont trace back to you
The thing about the telescope meme, is that I am not a telescope engineer, and do not know the history of telescope engineering.
(Kenny Jackass Brown does not have a biology degree, and I do not have a physics degree.)
So I first think that I do not know who invented what, and that for all I know, it could have been anyone.
Then I recall that there are a lot of telescopes.
Then I recall that we have had telescopes for a while.
I have an extremely weak grasp of the history of optics, and there is a whole lot of literature on light and shadow that I have not read.
I eventually come around to understanding the point of the meme.
If I do not have a job, and I do not understand how I would come to have a job, then maybe there is no cost to ‘losing a job’. Maybe any reason is good enough.
I’m not sure where one would go to get paid to become an autistic sperglord for who did what telescope designs when.
I would not go into academia to say ‘a black woman did not invent “the telescope”‘. There are true things worth saying simply because academia’s answers seem to be deliberately wrong. Academia is where one goes in hope of finding debate partners that do not believe in peace, and will not hold that any moved is barred or unfair.
