I have word that No Man’s Land — Vol 1, Vol 2, Vol 3 — is an official Prometheus Award Nominee!
Mind you, I’ll be excited if it makes to finalist, since it’s a very long book, if for no other reason.
I expect the award will go to Laura Montgomery’s excellent PLANTING LIFE: Shut the Kingdom
Or perhaps to Dave Freer’s Storm Dragon
But honestly, it’s an amazing honor to just be nominated alongside these excellent books.

Interesting observation with a sample size of one…
My daughter and family (hubs, 4YO and 1YO) were visiting, so my oldest son gave them his apartment and he stayed in the spare bedroom (which is now my “office”). I had the stack of the three volumes on the desk next to the bed. Today everyone went home, and the stack of three volumes was not on the desk next to the bed. They were on the floor on the other side of the bed. Hmmm, seems they didn’t get there by themselves.

The Prometheus is the only award much worth a darn. By which I mean, it’s the only award that causes sales of a book to increase.

Congrats Sarah and David. Not familiar with Laura and her work, but congrats to her as well. I don’t pay any attention to any other awards, and doubt I’ll attend World Con this year even though it’s only up the road from me. I don’t think I’m their kind of people.

On a related note, I love that C.S. Lewis is in the running with That Hideous Strength for best classic. A brilliant author. I just re-read the whole Narnia Chronicles and they are worth a read, especially if you don’t remember the origin story as recounted in The Magician’s Nephew or the Narniaverse story of A Horse and His Boy. Puddleglum may be my favorite character and the fact that there is a D&D Marshwiggle (fan created) stat block is awesome. I hope to get Marshwiggles into a campaign one of these days. After re-reading, I wish there were more Narniaverse stories. I also just bought the complete set for friends whose oldest is 6, about time to start reading them to her (I hope). I’ve also been collecting and reading his non-fiction and it is inspiring.

To my taste That Hideous Strength is more apropos to our timeline than either 1984 or Brave New World . When I first ran into it as a teenager it did not make as much sense as it did when I reread it again in my 50’s. That Hideous Strength truly is from the point of view of an adult with adult experiences.

Congratulations Madam Hostess! I am familiar with Mr. Freer and Ms. Montgomery’s work although I have not read either of those titles. Honestly, No Man’s Land really is quite the tour de force whirlwind journey and deserves the honor. Good luck to all three of you, and all of you please keep writing :-) .

Having read all of those books, personally I wouldn’t be able to choose. All are excellent, absorbing, thought-provoking, and just plain fun. I guess I’d give NML extra points for the length, for extending the fun ride (I hate it when a novel/series that I’m loving comes to the end!). Congrats Sarah, Laura, and Dave!

I joined the LFS a week or so ago. I think it’s a good investment, plus I get a vote. I can truthfully say I’ve spent more on dues for organizations in my life :)
