We remember the clear morn.
We remember the surprise.
We remember the death.
We remember.
The wound gaping in our hearts
The change in who we are
And who we’d be
We remember the clear morn
And death that came
Uninvited
Unwarned
We cry a little
We hang out our memorial flag
With every name of the dead
And we pray with desperate need
That today won’t be a clear morn
Bright and promising
An untroubled future
That never came.
Amen.

For being a clearly better timeline than visible alternatives not that long ago, this one still kinda sucks sometimes.

Today was bright and cloudless, and the sunshine in my window this noon gave me a qualm. I thought it was because of memories, but perhaps it was not.
I don’t often give myself the willies but I’ve got them today.

I’ve been having a bad feeling for months. And the voice at the back of my head is saying this is not yet the worst. Brace. And keep your clothes and weapons where you can find them in the dark.
I hope I’m wrong.

I get it. Me too. I actually line up all my crap before I go to bed, just in case the ridiculous might come to my little place in the middle of nowhere.
But I will now share something that made me think, said by a commenter over at Small Dead Animals: Comment by Unknown Jane at 9:32am
“If only it was so mundane as Team Left/Team Right or whatever team you want. The root of this is far more dark and disturbing than simple dichotomies. This will feed off of both sides (all sides) because this is (most likely) the work of accelerationists. They will use both sides to their advantage; their goal is destruction.”
The feeling I get is one of being herded. Ever-more ludicrous demands and stupidity from government, ever-more egregious provocations from random freaks and semi-organized agitators.
Not herded by government, I hasten to add, because those people are too stupid to come in out of the rain. They don’t mean well, but they’re not competent enough to do something so amorphous and intangible. Covid is what they do. This is different.
The concept of note is “Accelerationists.” The type of activity that causes colour revolutions and regime change in crappy third-world countries like Syria and Nepal.
Nepal being this week’s example. Okay, granted that their government has been corrupt forever, why -this- week to burn down the Parliament with MPs in it? Spontaneous? Or somebody playing with matches in the gunpowder storage?
Summing up, to me it feels like foreign actors are doing that to us. Canada even more than the USA, because we’re smaller so it’s easier.
I am disinclined to cooperate by running around in circles, or by burning my own liver with pointless fretting. So I line up all my crap beside the bed every night, I keep all my machines and whatnot in repair, and I cut the grass when it is too long. The foreboding doesn’t go away, but I give it the finger and carry on as normal.
Illegitimi non carborundum.

Nepal tried cracking down on social media, apparently. I imagine they have had problems forever, and this is the spark that finally caught. Once things were in motion, the settling of scores began.

Good plan.
An over the shoulder “messenger bag” allows one to scoop the essentials into an easy carry, and dash out.
Having a pair of easily put on shoes right there also helps.

The assassination would *have* to happen just before 9/11…
Please let nothing rock the political boat on the 11th…

A FB group that popped up on my general feed (not one I follow) linked the Budweiser Clydesdale salute to the towers commercial. The one that ran once commercially. I would have remembered tomorrow but then I realized the assassination happened the day before. Dang. Dang. Dang.
All I can do is pray for his wife and two littles. One who will never remember clearly his father. The older will remember something of her father. The memory will have to be kept alive for them by family members.
We tried with our son and his paternal grandparents. But he has no idea who they were. Grandfather died before he was born. Grandmother just before he was three. He saw her every month until she died (every weekend the first 2 months).

The Charlotte video. Then Israel causes Hamas to need new Dohar leadership. Then Russian drones go into Polish airspace. Then Charlie Kirk. It’s been one heck of a week, folks, and it’s only Thursday.
And remember Nick Bogdan. One of many who went to work in Lower Manhattan 24 years ago today and never came back to New Jersey. Husband and father, and possibly slightly Odd, since he enjoyed building armor.
We’re winding up a project and a retiree pastor likes to do Communion for the teams when they finish up. Dear Lord, I need that.

Without communion I’d have died of despair long ago. 2020 and the beginning of 2021 when I couldn’t have communion almost killed me.
Yes, I know, spiritual communion exists, but I’m a fleshy being, and I need touch.

There’s an elderly, gentle retired pastor who simply enjoys offering Communion. I’m sure he sees it as a simple act of service.

A friend of mine was on the 82nd floor of the first WTC tower to be hit. Fortunately, she and many of her coworkers in her office got out. Still a devastating experience. Was good to visit her this spring.
As for other current events: I really don’t know or have much to say. But a phrase keeps recurring in my mind: “Once the avalanche starts, the pebbles no longer have a vote.”
Enough for now. I need to be up in a few hours.

My heart is too unquiet to speak of recent events. Let fear, grief, anger, and regret give way. Love your family, and let them know it. Call your friends. Spend a few moments in quiet prayer. And, when you have a few moments free, take stock of yourself. Are you where you want to be? Where you are called to be? Ought to be?
If not, think about how to get there. Do something healthy and decent for yourself. Pet the cat. Give scritches. Smile, if and when you can. It makes the other side nervous. It makes our side happier.
We all owe Himself a death. One day we will get there. I hope to meet that day well.

We remember.
We remember those who died that day.
We also remember those who have died directly linked to that day.
So many walking dead, mentally and physically, due to issues from that day, slowly dropping dead one by one.
Dead from dust from the collapse, from working the Pile, from being around the nasty dust afterwards.
Don’t forget, the last body falls long after the event is over.

Today, assuming that the hereafter operates on solar rather than sidereal time, Rick Rescorla and Charlie Kirk (and many others) are side by side, both having recognized the the task set before them for what it was and both having spent the last full measure of their lives leading others to freedom and safety, eyes wide open to the possible cost to their own lives.
Shine the names, shine the names.

I’m working across the street from WTC today, I can see it outside my window. I was in Hong Kong on the day and we were living abroad or I’d have been in the WTC concourse when the first plane hit — time and habit work out. I’d probably have gotten out, most people did they built well, but so many did not and we should remember them.
I know I’ve mentioned before that men from my old school tended to go into Wall Street, I did, or became cops or firemen. Several worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, they’re all gone, others for Marsh, or AON, or the other firms that were high in the towers that day.
We should remember them. Frank Spinelli, Tom Celic, Steven Lauria, John Cosazza, Scott McGovern, Steven Hagen, Vincent Laieta who never met his son, William Micciulli, Shawn Bowman, Carl DeFranco, Joesph Ianeli, Pete Mulligan, Joe Visciano, Denis Hogan — a cousin of my own though we didn’t like one another.
Or they were cops like Steven Huczko, Steven Fiorelli, James Vanacourt, Ned Thompson, Patrick Murphy who went through grammar school and high school with me, his Da had been Chief of the NYPD.
Or they were firemen like Chuck Margiotta, Mary Egan, Neil Leavy, Brian Cannizzaro, Jeff Stark, Mike Clarke, Keith Roma, Chris Mozzillo, Ray Ragucci, Sean Kenney, and Bill O’Conor.
I could list the people from the parish, or from the wife’s school, but it’s all so depressing. I feel as though a line was crossed on that day and the devil loosed since so much of the damage has been the outcome of the panicked reaction and subsequent consolidation of power by people who never let a crisis go to waste.
But enough of that, the sirens have started as the dignitaries arrive. Let’s remember them and the ones who are still dying from the effects and let’s pray for each other. I think we’re going to need it.
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,
and may perpetual light shine upon them,
And may they rest in peace.
And May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed
Through the mercy of God
Rest in Peace
Amen.

Worked at the airport, and was fueling planes coming late from delays (fog in DFW or HOU) when suddenly the ramp was empty of SWA workers. No bags going on, no people loading motions (Y’all move the plane a lot, out on the wing at the fuel panel) Running in and out overheard talk of a plane hitting a tower (speculation was wide from a Cessna to an SWA flight [by one of their notorious fabulists] to a 747) Delivered the fuel ticket to an empty jetway, went into OPs to find everyone in the breakroom watching replays of the second hit on TV.
Skies closed. Saw airlines I’d never heard of landing at MSY (instructions were “Nearest available airport able to handle your aircraft!”)
Got lucky, getting told to go home and leaving 5 minutes before they locked down the airport, moved everyone to the Hilton and started doing searches and whatnot. Supe and SWA employee acquaintance got home after 1am

In re your point 1:
Obituary, Visitation & Funeral Information | Iryna Zarutska
It appears that the stabbing occurred on August 22.
That information leads me to two different potential conspiratorial conclusions:
First, no official in Charlotte wanted this to make the news.
Second, how did this get (leaked?) out? And why now?
