Still Editing

Alive and also still under the weather. Thyroid medication got upped.

I will in fact try to put up a post a little later today. Until then….

Have a pretty pic or two. Tell me what stories they suggest. (They’re mine, but they’re on Pixabay, so free. Why? Well, because they were cluttering my drive and while Pixabay doesn’t really pay artists, I’ve had a lot of pics from them over the years.)

Oh, yeah, a side-note that will amuse you: my kindle stopped functioning suddenly early morning two days ago. Okay, fair. It was an oasis, now four years old, and had issues. (They discontinued the Oasis for a reason.)

I got an old kindle I’ve got by, which has a crack, but still works, and ordered a paperwhite. (The use I make of them … it’s worth it.) I’m still using the old one though till it arrives….

…. found Indy chewing on it. He ate part of the cover.

Not sure what to do about this. Something will come. I think he’s attacking it because it takes mom’s attention. Sigh. THAT CAT.

Post anoon. Or probably right after noon.

  1. Pic one. Dr. Jackson wondering when the C4 is going to go off, opening up a wall so he can get away from these jerks.

    1. Similar thought on Dr. Jackson. But more thoughtful study of what has been found. A common occurrence.

  2. The second one …???… The extra ‘forearm’ ?? What? And the bird at the top, with a root growing out of it’s belly; strange way to mount that. Or the magic has gone QUITE awry!

    1. I think the “root,” on that bird is supposed to be its legs and claws. Though that doesn’t explain why the girl has two hands and a gee-I -don’t-know.

The United States needs to step up, and do our part.

We have pretty good access to sites in Europe, Russia, and China, and should just go ahead and do the needful.

  3. Just out of curiosity: Why pay $50 more for the Paperwhite model when the plain, garden-variety Kindle now has the famous built-in light and more storage space than one could ever need? [E.g., mine has over 1200 files on it, some of which are 1000+-page Complete Works collections, and only used up 2.3 GB of 13.37.] Is it the extra square inch of display, or the longer battery life?

  4. So, at the risk of contagion*, I think the first is just “a white guy working in Fortune 500 IT”. The second is mostly just unattractive and feels like it’s about death in an unpleasant way, the third looks like the cover of a Space version of Anna and the King of Siam, and the fourth is “How Fentanyl Is Made”.

    How did I do?

  8. I thought the penultimate one was the tattooed man from The Martian Chronicles then I realized it was some sort of survival suit.

Also, unrelated PSA: ticks are out and about, at least in my neck of the woods (eastern NC). The recent rain falls seems to have them stirring (or hatching or something). I’ve gotten some off the critters in the last few days and one crawling on my neck last night.

  9. Our lovely not rainy weather we’ve been having here in the Willamette valley has ticks out and about too. Area doesn’t have the variety or numbers as the US mainland east coast, but we have them. Or why I adore having possums around especially after deploying a fresh round of bark on the flower beds. Ticks come in on the bark dust, the possums eat the ticks (and snails and slugs, and garter snakes … possums can leave the snakes alone, they eat the snails and slugs too, but nature).

PSA. Needs to rain. Not hot locally, but too soon in the season to not be rainy. OTOH the Cascades and Montana/Wyoming (Yellowstone, at any rate), got snow dumped on them. Enough to mess with the recently opened roads, at least in Yellowstone.

Not quite a free for all thread, but I thought this article on the smoke for Papal elections, https://studyfinds.org/pope-election-chemistry-behind-black-and-white-smoke/ was pretty interesting. As a Catholic school kid I started following that stuff with John xxiii in 1958, and they were using straw back then. I thought they were still using the wet straw. Better voting through chemistry!

Have to be sure to distinguish conclave from autoclave.

Yes, a bit of rain would be nice; I turned on the irrigation system last week. The weather guessers say rain here Su-Mo-Tu but keep reducing the expected amounts.

    1. Our sprinklers have been setup for a couple of weeks. Been manually turning on the flower bed sections (two) since then. Just turned it to auto because the central flower bed needs watering (it is covered by the front lawn section). Actually rains enough on Sunday, will make sure it is off for Monday. Sigh. Too soon to be this dry, even if it hasn’t been particularly hot.

  11. Picture #3 is eerily similar to, but clearly different from, a visual writing prompt from last year (late August). It could even almost (but not quite) be a different view of the same scene. Since I did a double-vignette based on that one, it’s really hard for me to miss. See:

for the vignette(s), the ‘matching’ picture, and several other ‘inspirational’ pictures too.

And, like so many, today’s Picture #1 reminded me irresistably of Daniel Jackson. But it would be interesting to write a vignette based on him being someone else, entirely…

  12. It’s important to remember all the Judges doing this shit, are doing it in the hope some Conservative kills one or all of them. Don’t, that’s what they want, so their whores in the media can go twenty four seven how Trump’s rhetoric is the blame. As it is, I wouldn’t walk across a sidewalk and urinate on a Democrat Politician/Judge/Whore from hell media thing, if the fetid thing was on fire.

Yes the anger in me is strong, but that’s okay I hope someday I can meet one of these scum in a back alley, I won’t kill them, but castration is definitely on the table. Hopefully before the vermin breeds.

    1. No, that’s not what they are doing. They are competing to find a way to render one of their court orders in such a way that Trump and his team can’t possibly obey it. At that point, they will declare a “constitutional crisis” and remove him directly.

      https://redstate.com/smoosieq/2025/05/07/federal-judge-orders-trump-admin-to-begin-processing-12000-refugees-in-next-7-days-n2188807

On Monday, a federal judge in the Western District of Washington issued an order setting forth a “compliance framework” for the Trump administration to follow in order to adhere to his previously entered preliminary injunction. That framework will require the administration to begin processing roughly 12,000 refugees by next Monday.

“This Court will not entertain the Government’s result-oriented rewriting of a judicial order that clearly says what it says. The Government is free, of course, to seek further clarification from the Ninth Circuit. But the Government is not free to disobey statutory and constitutional law—and the direct orders of this Court and the Ninth Circuit—while it seeks such clarification. The Government’s obligation to process, admit, and provide statutorily mandated resettlement support services to the Injunction-Protected Refugees is immediate. Likewise, the Government’s obligation to restore funding, information, and operational support to its USRAP partners as necessary to process, admit, and provide resettlement services to these individuals is also immediate.”

    1. Let us pray for Leo, the Pope.

May the Lord preserve him, give him a long life, make him blessed upon the earth, and may the Lord not hand him over to the power of his enemies.

May your hand be upon your holy servant.

And upon your son whom you have anointed.

      Let us pray.

O God, the Pastor and Ruler of all the faithful, look down, in your mercy, upon your servant, Leo, whom you have appointed to preside over your Church; and grant, we beseech you, that both by word and example, he may edify all those under his charge; so that, with the flock entrusted to him, he may arrive at length unto life everlasting.

      Through Christ our Lord.

  14. She killed the peacock. Stole it’s wing and brains to build her arm. Now she’s eyeing the little bird who acts as her messenger. Necessary, but horrid, since she cannot pass among the People with just two arms.

And it’s not as if the peacocks weren’t all spies and traitors to the earthborn anyway.

    N.B. Prayers away, as ever.
