Privilege and Hobbles

Among the many strange things that Kamala Harris has done in her life, there is a video going around of her giving a talk at a black — college? — association where one of the guys opines there should be a different law for black people, because they are “400 years behind.”

First, sure, let’s see how stupid this man is from the historical perspective. He apparently believes that a) slavery holds you back sort of in stasis for the time period you were a slave. b) that it happened only to black people. c) that the 16– whatever project is true. d) that there is some “level” at which all white people are and some “level” at which all black people are.”

Taking the last one first, he’s a dumbass. He’s looking at history as a chart on the wall and positing that if you leave a civilization alone, each one progresses exactly like the other. Maybe this is an example of the left culture-blindness. Because culture absolutely dictates how a civilization develops or not. As does geography and a ton of other things.

Look, the civilizations of South America built cities but they never invented the wheel. This probably had to do with their geography more than anything. But still, there it is. An invention that Europeans made so far back we literally have no record of who did it, never happened in South America.

In Africa? It gets complicated. Because Africa is a whole fricking continent. Some civilizations had agriculture and complex languages, some were hunter gatherers and unclear on the concept of future tenses in verbs or counting above 3. So are tribes in the Amazon.

That’s to begin with. There simply is no set marks or places that all civilizations hit. It’s not like in school. You don’t pass certain grades.

On top of which, if you’re talking about American blacks, which this guy was and Kamala pretends to be, they’re mostly white. Or at least fifty percent or so. So, why would black people in America be 400 years behind? How do you do the math on how far behind each genetic component is.

Also, unpacking this, this dumbass thinks that culture is genetic. Black people somehow got slavery “retardation” encoded in their genes. WHAT?

Second, the idea that the US was founded on slavery does not pass the laugh test and is a-historical nonsense.

Third, how do you compute how much each person has been held back by “slavery” if you presume slavery holds a race back? Do I go to 23 and me and compute the percentages of each race I am, then go back and see when these were enslaved and by whom, then…. What? I mean, let alone that the math would be mind-boggling and that 23 and me doesn’t even go deep enough to get all that, much less that history is not detailed enough to figure out who was a slave when…. again I say WHAT?

Look, the Romans enslaved everyone. If you’re even partly Mediterranean you probably are descended from slaves … and Romans. But wait, the Romans also went everywhere throughout Europe with their slaves, and enslaved more people there. So if you’re British, you’re descended from slaves and at least some Romans. Oh, but wait, the Germanic tribes enslaved each other. Moors enslaved everyone, including other moors.

Barring psychic ability and the power to see into the past of each person, how do you calculate how ‘behind’ each individual is?

Most of all, though, slavery doesn’t work that way. No, seriously. Slavery doesn’t work that way. Oppression doesn’t work that way. Oppressed races are routinely more cunning, more able, more capable, and once freed fly higher and further than their former masters.

Look at the Jews. From slavery to a functional civilization, and under oppression becoming intellectual giants.

This is not rare. Looking around my group of friends, recently we realized we were all the least favorite child. And all of you, for sure, have seen that the pampered and handed everything children of the wealthy tend to go nowhere fast.

In fact, if you want to look at people who have been hampered in life, look at those — either charity cases or the noblemen of old — who were handed everything by virtue of being born.

Which is what this dumbass is asking for, and Kamala is agreeing with.

Special laws? What, so that they’re not punished for crimes other would be punished for? That is privilege, the definition of – private law.

And think about it. Humans respond to incentives. If people are allowed to steal and kill or even just flaunt the law with impunity, what does it do to them?

It means the thrifty, the law abiding, those who are polite and sober and work hard become a despised minority who aren’t taking all the advantage they can. They therefore not only leave fewer children, but — evolution is slow, culture is fast — the bad behavior that’s rewarded will be imitated even by those who would not have behaved that way.

It destroys subcultures. It destroys people. It destroys civilization.

The noblemen of Europe who “fell” fell all the way to the bottom. They had no skills other than lording it over people. (Not the ones in Victorian times, but the ones who fell from grace in the middle ages. It’s complicated. In Victorian times, the noblemen behaved like the middle class, more, and had imbibed bourgeois virtues.)

Let’s have one law for everyone. That’s how people actually catch up. No special breaks for anyone, in law or hiring or anything.

Pure meritocracy is impossible, but let’s make it as close as possible.

And I bet you race becomes irrelevant in short order.

This very stupid idea of making black people like the noblemen of old comes from the Marxist stupid idea that white people are all like medieval noblemen. They’re not. The ones who are privileged — Hi Obamas, Clintons, Hunters — are also complete basket cases personally.

Welfare has done more harm to black people in America than slavery ever did. And affirmative action has compounded it to ensure that even black people who get ahead are tainted with the suspicion of not having gotten there by their own efforts.

Free everyone. Remove the hobbles from everyone. Let meritocracy reign. And I bet you, giving family culture time to catch up, within 3 generations you won’t be able to tell the difference in racial achievement in America.

Today’s WSJ has an op-ed by law Prof. Jonathan Turley (subscribers only, unfortunately) in which he quotes a whole bunch of law school professors, deans, and other elitists saying that the Constitution is evil, needs to be scrapped, is an obstacle to democracy, etc. etc. etc. He didn’t point out that this is why those same people want to get rid of the 2nd Amendment.

  4. One thing you can say about Thomas Sowell, he didn’t get where he is because of welfare and Affirmative Action. School drop out, odd jobs, USMC during the Korean War, night classes through Harvard (i.e. he worked his way through.) And his bio even says that he was a Marxist during his 20’s when he was going through college; and not until he was doing real research on minimum wage (not just confirming his bias) that started him down the path to conservativism.

He was spot on with his prediction of what would happen if Biden won in 2020 (unfortunately.) Not that it was just Biden, but the Globalist Statist behind the Democrat Party are the ones who have been pushing this conversion of the U.S. for decades.

The above is from yesterday’s post. It’s distilled truth. It’s the best way I’ve heard yet to fight back against the open borders enthusiasts, the multi-cultists, and the “you’re all just racisss” left.

If you see a photo of an illegal alien carrying a “free range meal”, or a heavily armed gang of illegals banging on an apartment door, or whatever the next abuse of American values turns out to be, stamp it with that passage and release it as a meme. “Race means nothing” at the top. “Culture means everything” at the bottom. And tag it #CultureMeansEverything until they catch on and start suppressing that.

Also the take over in El Paso underscores the lie about guns. People will use them for self defense….usually, when pressed to. They will not pull an Athens TN, regardless of whether authorities would prosecute them.
People mostly barely lift a finger to help themselves and even then do so against the tides of people telling them no. If its their own family they do not risk attacks on their family….they risk their family attacking them.
    I speak from personal experience.
So at some point we will end up in a bad war, probably to the level of every commie take over, brother against brother, parents vs children, spouse against spouse.

He has been picked up a few times and promptly released to his mother. Why? Because according to the statues of this jurisdiction, he is too young to be charged.

Excuse me?! He’s 12, not 6. He’s old enough to be held responsible for his actions. Instead he is left to terrorize several neighborhoods with his crime spree.

The attached debate shows the situation in Canada. That’s what you’re up against.

IMHO as an old hand, financially speaking in Canada it may be better to let home invaders beat you up, steal your car and burn your house to the ground than to fight them. You could easily pay more than your house and belongings are worth in legal fees no matter that you are legally in the right and acted appropriately, and have a freaking video recording of the whole thing. 1. I was chatting with my family several days ago, and due to the particular (not serious) topic that we were discussing, security cameras came up. One of the individuals present – who is in a position to be aware of how such things are handled – noted that the way to deal with the ever present security cameras is to rapidly put as much distance between yourself and the location of the “incident” as possible. Authorities will track your movement following the “incident”, using cameras. When you leave one camera’s field of view, they use other cameras nearby to figure out where you subsequently went. If you travel farther, law enforcement needs to look at more cameras. They inspect a group of cameras, find which one is tracking you, use that to determine the next group of cameras they should examine, and then submit a request for footage from those cameras.

But that takes time. And companies that have security cameras don’t have infinite storage space to store what their cameras record. Footage gets overwritten if it isn’t needed within a fairly short period of time. So if a couple of weeks have passed, and law enforcement submits a request for camera footage from a particular camera, there’s a good chance that footage no longer exists.

            Just an interesting factoid.

              1. I work in the security business. 8 TB will store about 2 months of video from 16 cameras. Longer if they’re set for Motion Detect and don’t waste space on hours of video with nothing and nobody of interest moving in the frame.

                Like

              2. Be that as it may…

1.) A lot of security camera footage is stored off-site by the company that the camera is being leased from. The length of time that the footage is stored is determined by the agreement that was signed when the lease was finalized. Small businesses often go this route.

2.) Storage might be cheap. But there’s no money in it for whoever is maintaining the camera. If I own a business and have half a dozen cameras set up to monitor the premises, I probably don’t care about something that happened a month ago. I probably only care about holding the data for a long enough time to ensure that I’m able to retrieve footage from illegal activities that took place on my own premises. That doesn’t mean that I’ll delete it the moment I decide it’s not useful. But I probably won’t keep it around for long. I might have enough storage space to store and catalogue a year’s worth of footage. But unless I’m using it for blackmail material, I would probably prefer to do something more productive with that storage space (or the money that would otherwise be used to purchase that storage space).

                Like

                1. Hardly anybody actually deletes surveillance video. Most systems are set up so that when the storage space is full, the oldest video is deleted automatically to make room for new video. It’s a continuous process.

                    1. Thing is, there’s nothing that remotely rivals the storage space of a modern hard drive or SSD. DAT, the last gasp of tape storage, topped out at 160 GB. Double-sided, 4-layer Blue-Ray disks hold just over 100 GB. What would they put ‘archive storage’ on? More hard drives, that just aren’t always connected to a computer?

    1. Several instances through my life, none every rose to that level. In my 20s I escorted a cousin of mine to a jazz club in town to hear someone she liked. It was in a not so good part if town. Later, without incident, we were at the bus stop in the good part of town and an individual of a nonwhite persuasion high and incoherent was walking up to every pair of people waiting for a bus and literally getting their face scrwaming nonsense. In every case, the screamie would turn away or take a step back and screamer would smile and continue on. My cousin was terrified to the point of babbling.

When he reached us he got in my face nose to nose and started screaming. I continued staring didnt move didnt look away, face mosy neutral. He stopped after 30 seconds….looked at me hard, then turned and walked away. When he was almost out of sight he turned and yelled and shook his fist and left.

My cousin was so shaken I had to ride home with her and walk her to her apartment. The entire way she castigated me for what I did instead of yielding like everyone else.

Aside from that…I had to walk almost two hours back to my place because that was the last bus.

There were others, some bigger some smaller. In each instance, I stood my ground and was punished for it because it violated group agreement.

People hate that because it shows them how little they have to do to improve their lives….but they must act.

Taking on someone crazy when you are smaller almost always escalates to dangerous and potentially lethal levels of violence. Because the crazy cannot allow himself to lose to a girl.

ring puts it on a table and leaves. He comes back, picks it up and just
looks at it. I was a teenager and didnt understand.

I asked both parents separately about it. My mother said she left him
because she realized he had a capacity for performing violence, so she
left him before he could focus it on her.

My father said woman want control in a relationship and she knew she
              wouldnt really have it.

My circle of friends, mostly also feel that way. I knew one guy back in
college who was exarmy. He thought fighting was better.

So most people are bend the neck and hope to live. Its why they got on

I learned early in life that most people, including armed people with weapons out intending to do criminal mischief, will hesitate or back down when you calmly face them down.
Given the times I have been in this situation have been few, perhaps I have been lucky…but I also always had a backup plan. Hint, most people are neither Chuck Norris nor Bruce Lee. They also react badly to sudden pain (myself included).

        https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/braun-woman-exonerated-in-self-defence-killing

5’3″ woman assaulted -nearly to death- by 6’5″ “boyfriend” survives by a fluke. Taken directly from hospital to jail, receives zero treatment for profound complications from the -near fatal- beating including brain injuries and so forth, stays in jail for FOUR MONTHS because… well no reason really that’s just what happened because nobody gave a sh1t, gets to trial and it is over in one session. Open and shut, no question it was self defense.

The Crown prosecutor had to gall to say “the system worked” in his statement to the media. Nothing bad happened to that guy that I’m aware of.

Then there is the even more judicially malfesant case of Peter Khill who shot a car thief in his driveway, the obscene travesty perpetrated against Ian Thompson (who had VIDEO of them trying to burn his house down with firebombs) and let us not forget Jonathon Logan arrested and ruined because he… didn’t do anything at all.

Meanwhile, catch-and-release for violent migrants. Oh yes, they get let off every time.

Low IQ, low impulse control, too stupid to be responsible for their own actions. Y’know, the whole being a responsible member of society thing is “acting White.” It’s genuine self-defeating insanity. People who would not otherwise buy into racist rhetoric would hear stuff like this and go “hmm, well, if a black lawyer thinks this way, maybe it’s true…”

  14. An invention that Europeans made so far back we literally have no record of who did it, never happened in South America.

More so far back we’re not sure where it happened or if it was a unique or multiple discovery. My money is on the latter and if it is the former my money is more on Asia than Europe (and probably on the Eurasian steppe regardless of which side).

The reason I pick that location is I think it isn’t just geography that kept South America from doing it but the lack of very strong pack animals. While handcarts are known it does seem in the earlier archeological record we only find animal pulled carts.

The steppe is where the horse was domesticated, but ox carts in the precursors of one of the great river valley civilizations in Asia might have done it (I don’t see evidence for Egypt, the one non-Asian great river civilization having it early).

Black people somehow got slavery “retardation” encoded in their genes. WHAT?

Genes? No, but culture through “well meaning” whites and the elevation of black “leaders” both of whom rely on blacks being poor and angry for their power? Yeah, I’ll buy that.

But wait, the Romans also went everywhere throughout Europe with their slaves, and enslaved more people there. So if you’re British, you’re descended from slaves and at least some Romans.

If you talk to people doing genetic work in archelogy you’ll get long winded discourses on just how fine the genetic differences of “Germanic” vs. “Celtic” people are in Europe. To get real divergence in populations in Europe you need to go back 4000+ years to the transition to the Bronze age where entire genetic lines all but disappear to be replaced with the ancestors of the Celts and the Romans and the Germanic tribes who are all tightly related.

    1. I have read that wheels were in fact known, but not used as not practical. An inter tubes search yields some confirmation:

It had long been assumed that ancient Americans didn’t use wheels because they didn’t know how to make them. That turned out to be false. In 1880, as archaeologist Désiré Charnay excavated the tomb of an Aztec child in Mexico City, he came across a small coyote figurine mounted on an even smaller set of wheels. Since then, other wheeled toys have been found across the country. Most belonged to the Toltecs, whose culture flourished between 900 and 1100 AD.

      1. Wheels are overrated. Merchants didn’t use pack mules out of a love of making less money but because the mules couldn’t pull carts on some of the roads they traveled.

      2. The Americas also lacked domesticable beasts of burden. Llamas and dogs were about it, and where llamas are, wheeled vehicles wouldn’t have worked well at all. Dogs could only pull a limited amount of mass.

The wheel seems to have been invented at least twice, once in Asia and once in Mesopotamia or the area north of the Black Sea and then moved south to Mesopotamia. Cattle and asses of varying kinds pulled carts before horses were domesticated, as best archaeologists and anthropologists have been able to determine.

        1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_River_cart

Red River carts traveled with a supply of replacement axles and used no grease. And it is said you could hear one coming for miles.

“The cart, constructed of native materials, can easily be repaired. A supply of shaganappi and wood are brought; a cart can break a half-dozen axles in a one-way trip.[2] The axles are ungreased, as grease will capture dust, which acts as sandpaper and can immobilize the cart.”

These are spoke wheels with coopered rims and iron tires. The wheels didn’t turn on the axle, the axle turned under the cart to save the wheel hubs. Axles were a consumable.

Nothing is never as easy or as simple as you think it ought to be.

Something else about S. America, mountains. The Canadian West is -flat-. So very flat. Can you imagine trying to manage a Red River cart going down a mountain in Peru? Up would be bad enough, with the llamas or whatever pulling it, but down? No brakes?

          1. Ah, yes, carretas [southern Red River cart]. The good news for traders down here was that the Comanche could hear them coming a long way off. The bad news for ciboleros was that the Comanche could hear them coming … [Comanche were good with trade. Not so good with other people hunting “their” buffalo/bison.]

            Liked by 1 person

          2. Both came through; thanks for the info. Although I can’t see how dust in grease could stop a cart, I’ll accept that there might be a way I can’t think of. A more serious issue, IMHO, is the wheels locked to the axle; in that scenario, the wheels cannot turn at different rates, putting enormous torque stress on the axles during turns, stress which only increases as the load does. It’s no wonder they lost multiple axles per trip.

Conestoga wagons had both brakes and free-turning wheels on fixed axles (AFAICT; it’s not especially clear; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conestoga_wagon); a mix of pine tar and lard was used to lubricate them.

I guess my point is that multiple schemes have been used over the centuries, and whatever is required for a given environment will usually show up in some form. The only thing that can’t be invented is an appropriate draft animal; the only suitable one became unavailable for domestication in the Americas when the last native horse was eaten by the proto-Amerinds. No reflection on them; food is food, and hunter-gatherers have to take what’s available.

One reason they so many tribes helped the Spanish against the Aztecs was because they were tired of having their people captured and either made slaves or offered as human sacrifices. In North America, some of the various tribes enslaved people they captured in conflicts as well.

This is the kind of behavior that existed throughout the world for millennia, and it was only the British decision to finally end support for slavery and the American Civil War which triggered the widespread abolition of slavery; a practice that still exists in places ruled by Jihadists.

But please leftists, continue to insist that people are defined solely by what designated identity group they are born into. The most infamous people who believed that kind of nonsense were the National Socialist German Workers Party, i.e. the Nazis.

Luckily, it doesn’t seem a prevalent in the Sonoron Desert where I am. But it was specifically the comment about rabies that prompted my comment; in the series I mentioned the “manufactured” zombie plague was a rabies-based “double-expressor” virus. And while bubonic isn’t usually fatal with modern medicine (aside from the pneumonic, and especially, septicemic, forms) rabies is; I’ve only heard of one person who survived it, with constant medical care for about a month. That was decades ago, but I’ve never heard of another.

(Should have brought both kittens home when they first showed up, but we’d just brought in two kittens … Water. Bridge. etc.) Dumped as a kitten with another kitten, and female (probably mother but?). Already was an older male. Veterinarian who golfs there said “catch them all, I’ll neuter/spay, and release”. Couple of golfers expressed interest to take all 4 as barn cats. Never happened.

Fast forward. Adult female disappeared before getting TNSR. Other 3 never taken in as barn cats. Last summer older male and female “kitten” disappears. Which is why we (not easily, but did it without trap) brought the last “kitten” home. Found out later that the female kitten had be found torn up. One of the other golfers caught her to take her to the vet, where she had to be put down. Doing so however got the rescuer scratched up (lots of bleeding … given the age of most the golfers in this group, bleeding is a given because of medications). The scratches went bad, golfer ended up in the hospital. Did get rabies protocol from an abundance of caution until test results back. No rabies were involved. Given where the golf coarse is located (not urban) it is a pick list of what finally got the other 3 cats: coyotes, bobcats, eagles, bear, even fox, (not Haitians) etc., is possible.

(* Was being fed. Allowed petting. Would jump up next to hubby for more pets. Could not pickup. Capture involved some bleeding. But no infections. Then any scratch hubby gets means there is bleeding. Here at home? Cuddles with hubby and son. Other cats and he have a stand off. He stays in family room over garage, they get the rest of the house. Won’t have anything to do with me. I am just the meany who fills kibble and water bowl, and makes hubby hold him so I can apply flea killing stuff.)
