So triggered by the “It’s over Anakin…” meme, I have discovered a British fellow on YT who is doing sort of a meta reactions videos with his good impressions plus deepfaked faces to have Obi-Wan, force-ghost Qui-Gon, and more-or-less-reincarnated-via-Bacta youngerish Anakin sitting around watching and reacting to various Star Wars stuff – see:
The funniest thing about the ‘I have the slopes roof’ meme is somehow they’ve made Anakin convey a sense of ‘you have got to be kidding me’ not even slightly present in the actual scene.
The fact that Fatty Arbuckle is frontmost in the Keystone Kops meme adds so much depth to it.
(Arbuckle was falsely put on trial for murder as a moral crusade against Hollywood. Three times. The third time, every single member of the jury personally apologized to him that he had been put through such a ridiculous farce.)
Yep. That, and the long history of baseless smears working more or less the same way, is part of why the left and deep state are so enraged that it hasn’t worked with Trump. It’s supposed to work. It always works.
Actually, the Arbuckle case is a great example of “He’s totally guilty, so let’s pretend that the crime was totally different than the actual crime. Then we can acquit him of the fictional version of the crime, because obviously there won’t be IRL evidence of that one.”
Here’s a good true crime presentation about the case:
The channel is run by a retired barrister from the UK, so he sees cases from a lawyer’s point of view.
From what little I know of the case, I think the evidence is too muddled to be settled one way or another. This British chap completely elides the fact that juror Helen Hubbard was the wife of a lawyer with connections to the DA’s office and should have been weeded out in the voir dire process, and the fact that Delmont, the chief witness changed her testimony frequently and admitted to a plan to extort money from Arbuckle at some point. Brit Chap also forgets that the implications of Arbuckle being somewhat notorious for his sex-parties cuts both ways: if Delmont and Rappe (who’d worked with Arbuckle on and off for five years) were going to one, they had at least some idea of what they were in for.
There’s circumstantial evidence for Arbuckle mistreating Rappe or attempting to rape her and a possibility that this caused or contributed to the ruptured bladder that killed her. But we don’t have any smoking gun proving that this happened, rather than rough but consensual sex, or an attempt at same, leading to a ruptured bladder. We have one mildly shady witness – who changed her story several times and later showed signs of being willing to recant for the right price – who said that Rappe did not go willingly into Arbuckle’s room. And this witness had gotten drunk at the party, same as everyone else. We have the issue of what Arbuckle’s sleazy friends got up to at the same party, which is evidence as to the type of people and behavior Arbuckle associated with and considered normal, but again, doesn’t convict him beyond a reasonable doubt.
Meanwhile, DA’s office did all kinds of stupid stuff, including letting Helen Hubbard into the jury pool; gunning for a murder verdict (legally justifiable but harder to sell to a jury) when manslaughter would maybe have been an easier conviction; using (in the second trial) the testimony of a child molester seeking to get his own sentence reduced; going after the literal whale Fatty Arbuckle instead of his sleazy minnow friends, whose involvement in an attempted rape at the same party was more provable. Bluntly, DA deserved the L, whatever Arbuckle did.
Both Brit Guy and other sources describe the bladder injury as caused by blunt external trauma, and the doctors didn’t find evidence of anything sexual having been done to her. The more sensational claims of Arbuckle abusing her with an object started as a chunk of ice alleged(1) by one of his sleazy friends who also happened to be Rappe’ s agent and escalated from there in the hands of Hearst and his ilk. If it comes to a choice between the medical evidence, evidence from yet another of the scuzzy Hollywood randos involved, and reports by the tabloid journalists, I’m going to stick with the medical evidence, and ignore the Hollywood Babylon types.
Discourse about the case always gets caught up in sensational red herrings like this one, and like suburbanbanshee says, it tends to deflect from what Arbuckle was actually on trial for, which amounted to applying weight/force to the outside of her abdomen in a way that caused the fatal injury.
(1) supposedly told in a joking manner by Arbuckle while drunk to friend, also drunk. So not the highest quality hearsay you were going to get.
On the “Trump encourages…” one, the image does indicate a shot from the left aimed at DJT’s wedding tackle is really the only shot blondie up front would soak up, isn’t t?

And in any case those were Hobbits not elves hiding from the ring wraith.
I think Cookie Monster never showed on the Muppet show as he was Sesame Street Only. However, given Disney owns The Jim Henson Company and rights to the Muppets their evilness is possible even likely. With a Keebler crossover we’ve already traveled a few sets of rights, why not more? And here I find myself wanting a Muppet LOTR with Ian McKellen reprising his role as Gandalf as the token Human in the production. I imagine the Tolkien estate would not permit although after Amazon’s Rings of Power they have little excuse to avoid lessening the trademark.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen a meme like this yet:
[I have a wonderful sloped roof meme, but WordPress is too unenlightened and obtuse to allow me to post it without having to figure out how to give it a URL. WordPress Delenda Est!]
One of my favorite cartoons from when I was an undergrad was a young Pierre yelling to his Mom “I’ve finished my homework!”, which consists of a “2+2 = 4” in very large numbers, and off to the side, a note written “I have wonderful answers for the other 19 questions, but the margin is too small to contain them.” The cartoon was labeled “Fermat’s First Homework.”
I still look in awe at all the trouble caused by that one little bit of marginalia!
My wife saw the “married couples looking at modern dating” meme on a different site a couple days ago, called me over to show it to me, and said “See? See? Someone else gets it!”
My beloved is much better. Doctor believes the trouble was an aftereffect of the surgery. It would be nice to go home today, but I expect them to keep him another night.
So wonderful to hear this, and continuing thoughts and prayers. Not all such stories ’round about now have been so reassuring… many comforts and blessings, and rest as and while you can!
And a grim OT, don’t remember if I posted it elsewhere, but there was a body-armored, rifle armed cop outside a Jewish middle school yesterday. Suspect the synagogue was behind the school, or behind held in the school building. Either way, I *hate* an armed guard might be necessary for people to go to worship.
Hm. Did Joe write this? Or his puppet masters? Inquiring minds want to know.
Some translations:
“Overcame a once in a century pandemic”
That your party used to lock up the country, used to hide you and your partner in crime in the basement to perpetuate a fraud on the country.
Overcome – “the worst economy crisis since the great depression”
Correct: Create “the worst economy crisis since the great depression.”
“We protected and preserved our Democracy”
Trying to create a banana republic democracy.
“revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world”
Threw Israel under the bus by appearing to support Israel in these troubled times, but not really. Opened up multiple hot spots around the world because no adversarial country, Russia, China, N. Korea, nor Iran and it’s partners, respects Biden or Kamala, time in the White House.
But hey, why quibble with inconsistencies and lies?
I expect #DrJill was told to sit down and shut up. Or else #Brandon’s brain took a hard turn for the worse when he “tested positive for covid” and now they can’t even pretend anymore. He’s been getting away with incontinence but actively drooling and slurring don’t play on TV.
Probably going to let the Big Guy run out his term in office so he can ‘retire’ with ‘dignity”. And gives doctor Jill time to pick what she’s going to steal from the WH.
My bet is on a pile of further evidence of Brandon personally on the take with proof he knew it from foreign sources. “So, you choose, Frau Doktor Jill: Out of the election or out of office with your entire family headed to Federal prison. You have until Sunday afternoon to make the smart choice.”
That’s an understatement. That was the first time ever a genetically engineered virus was set loose on the world. Fortunately they were as incompetent at making their Franken-germ as they were at keeping it under control. In the end, it was the common f*king cold, no worse than a bad flu season. All of the damage was caused by their hysterical overreactions.
I include the ‘election’ of Biden as part of that damage.
I’m torn between the idea of leaving this perambulating toadstool “running” the USA or letting #HeelsUpHarambe get her hands on the wheel. Six months is a long time, either way.
At least with “#brandon you know he’s not going to get any bright ideas of his own. ~:D
“…to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President…”
So all those (D) primary voters just got bait-and-switched by Mr. Sharp As A Tack, for (I have to presume) whoever the Party oligarchs decide to pick (and won’t that be the glorious feeding frenzy, in or out of plain sight). Thank you so much, ol’ Party of “Our Democracy”, for that.
Which at least seems to leave Princess Kammie the Nasty, ah, well, in office for a few more months, but otherwise twisting in the wind.
“A vote for Joe Biden is a vote for Mr. TBA” — suckers!
Trump was all prepared to beat the zombie sock-puppet like a rented mule. Now we have to wait, and see what pair of losers The Party pukes up as replacements.
Whatever you do, don’t say “They can’t find anybody worse!” That is the one thing the Democrat Party excels at. Always finding Somebody Even Worse is their superpower.
By the way, why make such a huge announcement on a Sunday afternoon? Like they’re trying to sneak it in when nobody’s looking.
He specifically said he would not resign, rather, would “concentrate on the Presidency.”
Of course, Republican on my Twitter feed have been divided between. “Run, Joe, Run! Don’t listen to them, you can do it!” and, “If he’s too feeble to run, he’s too feeble to stay in office.”
He has also endorsed Kamala and encouraged everyone to follow her.
Makes you really wonder about the palace intrigue, doesn’t it?”
Does anyone remember the Trump Team’s response to Harris wanting to debate Vance?
Basically it was they wanted to wait until they knew who would be Harris’s replacement as Vice President (Harris would be replacing Biden and they didn’t know who would be the Democratic Candidate for VP). 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It looks like Willie Brown’s Folly is trying to put together a ticket – note floating names of all males – per Charlie Martin over on the PJM liveblog from X:
CNN’s @jamiegangel says sources close to the Vice-President say these are some of the names being discussed as her running mate:
Arizona Senator Mark Kelly Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro
Plus there’s every indication Barry likes being the dude behind the curtain, not having to do all that handshaking and events and national ice cream day and talk to the plebs and such but still being teh mover and shaker.
0bama was never the dude behind the curtain. 0bama was the smoke and mirrors show to distract us from the men behind the curtains. All 0bama ever did was recite their words, sign what they wrote, and spend our money. The talking head is empty.
Where does the serve 10 year maximum come in? Which is why it was speculated that Biden was a two year president (not that this happened) so Kamala would take over mid term 1, for two years, run for reelection, twice, for two 4 year terms. So even if Obama was brought in for VP legally, and Kamala was to resign immediately, Obama could only serve two of the 4 years (yea, then they bring in his new VP … Hilary maybe?)
Then it doesn’t count if someone has already served 8 years, then later becomes VP, takes over from a president who dies/resigns for 2 (+ years)? Those prior 8 years are disregarded?
That is a bit like saying the Second Amendment only means for those serving in government controlled militia like the National Guard can keep and bear arms, because that is what they really “meant” even though that wasn’t what they -wrote-.
There authors of that amendment forbade someone from running for a third term. They could very easily have said “no one may serve a third term”. There is a clear and explicit “getting to serve without election” with plenty of historical occurrences. Yet there it is.
If they go by the written words of the Constitution. Bill or Barry could run for Veep.
Given the recent SCOTUS rulings, its a better than even chance they agree. But I predict if that happens, it 5-4 with left/right splitting on both sides of the question.
And would that not be a Shark Jumping Fonzie moment?
Until someone tries it, and/or SCOTUS pre-emptively hints which way it would go, its on the table.
Can you produce evidence that’s not what they meant? Because we can produce oodles that the Founding Fathers meant the militia to be the general citizenry.
BHO is not barred from serving as President. Only from being elected to that office. Note clearly the language. “elected” is not “serve”.
If someone appoints hem veep, or he runs for veep he can assume the office of Pres. 12th doesnt bar him from running. 22nd doesnt bar him from serving. Letter of the law. If they had meant serve, they would have used that word. Don’t eminate in the penumbra.
Unless BHO gets impeached, he has no bar to serving.
from A12 But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.
from A22 No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice
I noticed the distinct lack of enthusiasm for Harris in BHO’s tweet about Biden. Somebody noted (been offline; had a fire nearby and TPTB had to deenergize the main feed line, so no ‘net) that Chicago gives the Obamas home court advantage.
Wonders about Big Mike as VP. Can’t see it getting to a plausible level of fraud. Not that she’s unpopular, but one would expect a seasoned pro to be somewhere on the ticket.
Note that the veep names being floated so rapidly from the Kammie campaign all are dudes-of-pallor. An all-estrogen ticket might be a hard sell to flyover country.
A few more semi-random things about the Latest Politiquake before I try my best to escape to the 23rd or 24th century with a thoroughly non-politics vignette…
Has anybody else noticed how starkly nontraditional and irregular this “no longer the nominee-apparent” announcement is? “Normally” it’d go out as a Presidential speech (compare Nixon’s resignation), or at the very least an official announcement in the briefing room to the White House press corps by KJP — if it was being treated as a Presidential matter — or as a press release or statement or press conference from the Party or its Chairman, if it was being treated as a strictly-the-leading-candidate thing.
Instead, we have reports that both White House staff and campaign staff are finding out about all this via — one tweet on TxiXter, the very same way we found out about it here. And, though it’s been endlessly copied here and everywhere… that’s it. So, how do we really know it’s not just the “White House Twitter intern” or whoever has the account password? Answer, we really don’t know, either way.
Which is, when you get right down to it, much of the reason why those “official” channels came to be in the first place.
Meanwhile Dopey Joe the Cheapfake President is still “somewhere” still “recovering from Covid” on a placid Sunday afternoon. Hm.
Seems like if someone wanted to maximize confusion and doubt and uncertainty, for Biden and the Deez, this would be the way to do it.
Tomorrow morning is (obviously enough) Monday. The day some of the counter-assassination security screwups start to come (even more) under close scrutiny. And 9-ish days since the shooting, itself.
Not the most spectacular way to distract from all that. Still, it looks like it’ll give all the morning-show news people a lot to talk about, instead of all that…
Imagine the Docs tasked with building the drug cocktail for his promised “later this week” speech. He has to willingly be giving up, after all his speeches up to just days ago to the contrary that clearly reflected what he wanted to do, yet avoid looking too John Gill so as to avoid louder assertions he’s not okeydoke enough to still be “in charge” of things for the next 6 months until inauguration day.
Pharmacologically prop him up for maybe five minutes, no audience or questions, but no eye bleeding, and they can’t use the State of the Union cocktail – no shouting allowed in an Oval Office televised speech.
There’s no schedule for the speech yet, so getting the drugs even close must be quite the moving target.
I will be very amused if whatever he next says doesn’t explicitly say he dropped out.
(JB, halting Teleprompter reading) “I am doing what I think is best for the country. Pause. Folks just have to learn to accept it. Pause. Nod. I thank the people for their support. Wave. Goodnight. Smile.”
(producer) “And… out”.
(Flunky) “That was ….great … sir. Roll up your sleeve….”
Look how long they kept him hidden in 2020 because MUH KUNG FLU. Keep running his social media, have Mopsyshanisha the Press Drone run interference with the mostly sympathetic press, keep sucking up to the lamestream media who’s not going to look very hard into it anyway and will drop a Greta-esque “HOW DARE YOU!” on anyone who dares to suggest that Puddinhead is no longer sentient. Sprinkle in a few deepfakes lightly, as needed, and they can keep him on ice all the way to November. Just have Cackles do all the meeting-in-person-with-leaders stuff because MUH KUNG FLU. She’s expendable, after all.
See Biden (worse of his vacant faces). (Paraphrasing) “You know Biden’s record on the Border Crisis?” Pans out to include Harris at the podium. “He had help.” Now hear trademark cackling laugh. “Trump/Vance for President/VP).
So, something new. Who knew a credit rating can dive (don’t worry still > 800) 40+ points for paying off a revolving credit card? Like we do every single month. Usually wait until 1st of month after statement comes out, didn’t this time, but that shouldn’t matter. Difference this month is we ran up at high balance. Getting new countertops & backsplashes, sink & faucet, bathroom faucets x2, and garbage disposal, will do that. Credit rating system treated this like paying off a high balance on an actual multi-month loan.
I get high-ish balances when I’m doing travel. Last week’s festivities entailed a 4 night stay at the F-Falls Shilo. Wasn’t aware of the 20% medical discount and ’twas too late to change once I found out. Still, end-of-period balances in the mid to high 100s are common, but they always get paid off at billing. (Now. Don’t want to remember a few decades ago. Yikes!)
Haven’t looked at our credit score; local contractors trust us. OTOH, might have to go through that soon. Our insurance (Country Financial) decided that manufactured homes not attached to a continuous foundation don’t get coverage (concrete block doesn’t count, so scratch most manufactured homes). I’ve been wondering if Country was trying to get out of residential coverage. If so, they’ve made one hell of their first steps. (Converting concrete block foundations to continuous doesn’t seem to be a thing. My WAG puts it at $50K and 3-4 months uninhabitable if it’s even doable. No plans to build a stick house.)
This was on top of the 72% rate increase from last year. At least we have ’til September. BIL’s mother lost coverage on her park model home, so we’re looking at some of the ones she researched. Mercifully no mortgage, so that part of the worry is gone.
Yeah, it’s a thing… or hypothetically could be a thing, depending on if you have a company in the area capable of doing it.
It’s no different than lifting a stick-built house to repair the foundation.
… might even be easier, since the manufactured home is already built to withstand transport.
$50K was about what the company in my area would charge to lift a house (…15 years ago when we were looking into it) The foundation replacement might be included in that, or might not. If it’s not, then that would be extra.
2 months is probably a reasonable estimate, if everyone is efficient and schedules things well and then does them when they’re scheduled. I think you usually want about 28 days of curing time before you place the full load back on your concrete structure, and then there’s prep time ahead of of that, and waterproofing and backfilling to do after.
(Now. Don’t want to remember a few decades ago. Yikes!)
Ditto. Though, back then, never in $10k+ range.
Yes, if not one thing it is another. Still better than shoveling money into rent. Renting still pays for repairs. Payment is just hidden from renter.
Seriously, between countertop/backsplash, and hose paint (we also have had the house painted), and normal expenses (same CC), we were just under $15k. Upped limit from $15k (which was upped from $10k) to $21k to be sure didn’t go over credit limit. The two credit increases same reason, just not the same cause. First one was regular expenses closed month + new month & travel expenses, and timing on when closed month payment would be posted. In fact we were traveling before credit card closed so payment was actually less than needed, but had time after closing and we got back to pay off the remaining balance to avoid interest. Didn’t want to trigger online payment while connected to “public” wifi. Neither time did we actually go over the credit limits, but it was dang close. Given the reaction to paying off an almost $15k “all at once” (based on the “reaction”), hate to see what had happened with going over cards credit limit without raising it.
I almost want to go online to the credit bureaus, highlight the “balance paid off” and write “WTH? We always pay off month to month credit cards! We have for 40+ years!” Almost. Like I said. Still > 800 (barely) credit rating. But dang it. I liked 840 ~ 860! When we started out we didn’t have a credit rating. Found it difficult to get any kind of loan. Sears for the win (which is one reason why we were loyal to the end) to get our first washer/dryer/dishwasher, and some furniture. Also the reason that as soon as son turned 18, made sure he had a credit card, so by the time he was ready to make his first loan purchase, his credit rating is “Very Good, but Thin”. In contrast ours has been “Thick”, would hope so after 45 years, and “they really, really, like you, Excellent”.
Stay tuned. Next big expense will be reflooring, and blinds, upstairs. Then we will do the rest of the house (vinyl planks). Also need to redo parts of the bathrooms, and floors. Whether we use CC or pay cash, will depend on whether we go through Costco, or not. Countertops/backsplash through Costco, the rebates (15% + 2% + 2%) doubled our front end cost savings VS any other quote.

Actually, I am! :-)

Fortunately they were as incompetent at making their Franken-germ as they were at keeping it under control. In the end, it was the common f*king cold, no worse than a bad flu season. All of the damage was caused by their hysterical overreactions.

Doesn’t say that. Go read it. serve and elected are very, very different words. Ford served, and was not elected.
And SCOTUS has had some pretty wild tax/not-tax decisions lately.
Cant run does not equal cant serve.
LikeLike
Where does the serve 10 year maximum come in? Which is why it was speculated that Biden was a two year president (not that this happened) so Kamala would take over mid term 1, for two years, run for reelection, twice, for two 4 year terms. So even if Obama was brought in for VP legally, and Kamala was to resign immediately, Obama could only serve two of the 4 years (yea, then they bring in his new VP … Hilary maybe?)
LikeLike
IIRC that involved a person who was Vice President becoming President because of the death/resignation of the President.

Then it doesn’t count if someone has already served 8 years, then later becomes VP, takes over from a president who dies/resigns for 2 (+ years)? Those prior 8 years are disregarded?

While I don’t think they would be, we’re in totally uncharted territory here. SCOTUS would HAVE to rule.

No.
As I understand it, the person who took over the Presidency for under two years can serve as the elected President for two terms.
After that, he can’t serve as President.
LikeLike
That’s past wild. SCOTUS would rule that it clearly meant that no one was to serve more than ten years, and claims to the contrary were chicanery.
LikeLike

LikeLike
LikeLike
LikeLike
