Christopher Anne Samson, RES’s beloved spouse and valued commenter of the early days of this blog has passed on to glory around one pm Eastern.
I suspect at this very moment she’s asking Himself for some explanations, and she will be advocating for all of us.
G-d give her perpetual rest in the splendor of His light. And make us worthy to meet her again in the bright land.
Amen.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

A glass lifted high and a head bowed low.
A tear in the eye, no other grief to show.
A quiet moment passes, to see her on her way
While all the silent voices are standing at the quay.
Standing at the shore of the soul’s dark sea
Waiting by the moor, standing in the lee.
The lee of a vessel shining in the night
That no heart can wrestle or turn from its flight.
All those gathered round watch the anchor rise
And tears now our found in every pair of eyes.
Now the wind fills the sail, and the mooring is set free.
Now the early morning pale gilds the welcome sea.
The wind bears her onward, out with rushing tide
And hearts are cast downward as they must still abide,
But that vessel still will journey to a far and shining land
And though we are not worthy it shall come to us again.
The Glass be lifted high, and the heads be still held low
The tears still in the eye let grief give their full flow.
While the quite moment passes, yet there will come a day
When our souls will take passage and she will meet us at the quay.

I am sorry for your loss – even with the factor that this is a very distant family member as the only connection is the blog – I still feel a loss and have a tear in my eye. “Fair Winds and Following Seas”

my superstitious dead aunt would claim someone is burning a black candle on the blog and the Huns. So sad to hear.

Thanks, one and all. I’ll be coming to terms with this for years yet. It is only in facing her passing that I’ve been realizing how much of my life I’d focused on finding things with which to entertain and amuse her.
She was a long time passing, two months in hospice and the darling of all the staff. I treasure that time together as opportunity to share memories, pay regards to friends and families (as well as cure a few accumulated misunderstandings.)
I don’t know when or if I will return to this blog, other than as an occasional drop-in. The bounce is gone from my life and I don’t know if it will return. I deeply appreciate all of the friendships and support I’ve received from all here, even (especially) those of you who pushed back against my foolishness.

There is to be a approximately half hour memorial service at 11:00 EDT, Friday 04 August. Anybody who cares to add an endorsement to her addition to the Heavenly roll (not that she needs any; she’s already served whatever purgatory time is due, having put up with me nearly fifty years) is more than welcome to add theirs to the cloud.
Thanks for all the expressions of support..
