                2. Amazon has it labeled Uncharted (Arcane America Book 1) which suggests that there will be a book 2, at least… And Toni isn’t gonna let an award-winning book slide…

                    2. CCO, there’s a few issues with that:

                      1. There is no flat spot.

                      2. Even if there were, that has precisely nothing to do with whether the publisher wants to buy the next book. If there were a problem with the narrative with this book, then it would not currently be available. It’s simply whether the now-published first book sells or not.

  28. Sarah, I just read the Amazon blurb for the book, and saw this in the last paragraph. “Sarah A. Hoyt is the author of a dozen novels in various genres, “. Should that not read “SEVERAL dozen novels”?? Especially since they list eight by name and imply others in various series and genres. I think you should demand better accuracy in your bragging rights! ;-)

    1. Sigh. It’s not a dozen. Somehow Baen had a brain fart and put up my bio from when I SIGNED WITH THEM.
      I’ve published over 30 novels (that I admit to) and over 100 short stories. They’ve been yelled at, but this is Baen. Too much work, I guess, to go to Amazon and change the bio.

        The systemic flatulence foisted upon you by Baen has long since stopped being a credible accident or oversight.
        You worked your Portuguese buns off on this one, in a sub-genre you do not particularly like, yet turned out an award winning masterpiece. In collaboration with Kevin of course, but the honest truth is that collabs do not halve the work, they double it.
        Y’all done good and Baen had damn well better acknowledge that fact. As for sequels, they better have Anderson Hoyt on the covers or I guarantee some of us will have issues.
        Sorry to vent, but you deserve better.

      2. Sarah, who controls the content on your author page at Amazon, you or Baen? If it’s you, can you put up your latest bio there and then arrange with Amazon “Every time my bio is referenced on Amazon, use the one from my author page on your site and nothing else.”?

        That should be well within Amazon’s capabilities and would cut Baen’s IT out entirely (which judging from my reaction and Em’s to their “new and improved” web site, would be an unalloyed Good Thing).

    2. I liked the bit in “About the Author” under “Editorial Reviews” that said: “English is her third language, but she can swear fluently in seven.”

      It’s important that vital skills like that be listed on one’s resume.

      1. My first thought when I saw the picture was “Hey, what’s Peter Grant doing with a Dragon? I didn’t remember him having anything nominated this year?” Kevin looks like a thinner Peter, at least from the shoulders up.

  51. Congratulations! I grew up not far from Fort Clatsop and have read extensively about Lewis and Clark. Needless to say I’m looking forward to reading your award-winning book!

  52. Gee, wouldn’t it be interesting and helpful if Baen allowed some forensic accounting on the book sales so everyone could see what if any effect the new Dragon award has on the market.
    Once upon a time a Hugo guaranteed a huge bump in sales, sadly not so much any more. Be nice to know what a Dragon will do for you.

    2. There have been a couple winners by indies – Nick Cole, at least – but I don’t remember seeing any comments on that aspect by him or anybody else. Should maybe ask?

      On the other hand Dragon is still so new that it might not yet have gotten well known enough to really push that. But it should.

      1. Fantastic. Means that in six months or so Kevin and Sarah just might receive royalty checks, assuming of course that the book even earns out.
        First must allow for the massive investment made in artwork, editing, and promotion of course.

  64. As of today (Tuesday, 4 September, 9:42AM MDT), the awards.DragonCon.org website does not have the winners posted, and the main DragonCon.org homepage only links to the 2017 winners. I hope that the winners are publicized soon.
