  1. The one thing about that one with the Aztecs and the children? Sometimes, it rained. Not because they sacrificed the children, but just because of random chance.

They killed over 100 million people in the 20th century, and communism NEVER worked.

It’s still true even in 2025. The problem is that we’re having more and more trouble figuring out who the “you” is in that second sentence.

    1. I was going to put it in the form of “The trouble with computers is that they don’t do what you tell them to do. They do what their programmers told them to do.” But “we’re having more and more trouble figuring out who the ‘you’ is in that second sentence” is also a valid way of putting it.

The real sacrifice was giving up sweet tea. But I managed.

I didn’t even drink coffee until my mid-20’s. Hooked for good now. Now anyone who wants to live wants me to get my early morning coffee. 😁Actually, I’m not that bad. Prefer to not miss my coffee. But won’t drink it if can’t have real 1/2&1/2. No powders, none of the artificial stuff, not black. So have gone without when traveling, and everyone around me lived. I wasn’t grouchy.

  8. The only thing I would change about the two best/two worst presidents meme is that Carter and Biden should be standing in front of a portrait of Wilson — who was, IMHO, THE worst president in our history, because without him, we probably wouldn’t have had Carter or Biden. Among other things we wouldn’t have had.

    1. There is a case to be made for Woodrow Wilson as the worst US President. Although I’d rate him second-worse, behind FDR. Third worst might be LBJ, although Nixon is a possibility too. Not because of Watergate but because of EPA, OSHA, and similar other evil innovations.

In any case, I’d rather not try to rate recent US Presidents, due to “Recent Presidents may appear larger than their actual size” in the rear view mirror of history.

The one that gets me is the banning of cannon, which only happened a couple of years ago. I happen to know there was an actual death due to cannon a couple of decades back (of a 16-year-old camp staffer, no less), and they didn’t ban it then? No, they waited until some minor incident, then banned them. (We won’t even talk about the let’s-completely-ignore-all-protocol incident in Hawaii that has led to the current range restrictions.)

I think a lot of people are twitchy. I think a lot of people have the gain on their paranoia turned way high.

I kinda know why I feel "something must be wrong, turn up the gain and see if I can find what is wrong."

Yet, sometimes I am just making trouble for myself, and things will be fine if I can leave them alone mentally.

There are still gonna be people who can pay attention usefully, and make a difference where the hazards to them are concerned.

I assume the narrative about the weather is a minor portion of the reason for the change, and security issues being the dominant one. After a couple of assassination attempts, I’d much rather forego the celebrations and let DJT get somewhere safer and get to work.

Numbers won’t be there here in Eugene, or anywhere in the lefty enclaves here in Oregon either. Too dang cold. Eugene will be almost as cold as DC, but without the snow and killing wind chill. (Eugene might have wind child, but it won’t be anywhere near the expected -22F of DC.)

        1. Oh, there are always hardcore who will layer-up and go protesting in a blizzard. The weather cuts -way- down on crowd mass, whcih helps prevent riots. Not enough “sea” for the guerillas to swim in unseen. The lousy conditions also bollox up logistics.

And deep freeze enables a particualrly gentle yet nasty crowd control. The firemen set up hoses. the police provide a last warning. The firemen open up on “mist”, just enough pressure to loft it into the problem folks. No damage. Just soaking wet in freezing weather. Very, very quickly the weaklings and unmotivated flee. Anyone who dosent gets to re-film “Frozen”. Pretty soon things ice over and its comedy gold for anyone trying to cross the zone. You have to prep for that way ahead of time, and anyone so prepped looks kinda obvious if you know. All in all, the advantage is way over on the side of the hosers.

The relative handfull in DC tomorrow are not enough to meet the expectations of the wary opposition. That can cause the “where are they?” stress I mentioned. -Really- clever folks can actually use that to manipulate the opposition.

I am not expecting anything Monday, beyond opposition snivelling and some pointless minor crapweasel moves. I am also doing the usual “go forth with forethought”. Now it remains for Mr Trump to again render the Paleos moot in some sort of “Abraham Accord 2”.

Watched a translation of the Paleos declaring 7 Oct as a “great military victory”. It was the head honcho Paleo at the ceasefire negotiations in Dotha.

So we will see more abominations soon. First, the returned hostages. They were mostly abused. The details will shock andcenrage most civilized folk. Next, the terms where thousand plus responsible go free. And then, of course, we shall see more 7Oct type attacks. Any response will be “the Jews broke the deal!”

    Prove me wrong please.

    1. And the usual suspects will refuse to believe the horror stories the survivors will tell.

I like our minister, but he still trusts network news. (He believes, “fact-checkers,” are involved in making sure news is true and accurate and is concerned this valluable service is going away). His wife was commenting, “They released three (hostages) today and they looked very good.” The notion that Hamas might have done the equivalent of “fattening them up,” for the cameras never enters their minds.

      Like

      1. Negotiating for the release of hostages is a losing proposition. They’re just guaranteeing that Ham-Ass will take more hostages.

Never, ever reward them in any way for taking hostages. It’s not politically correct to say “Kill them all” but that’s the only approach they will understand.

Those ‘fact-checkers’ do not check for truth, they check for the Approved Message.

Every one of these actions is intended to present both the Trump Administration AND Americans in general with a Hobson’s choice:

either wait for challenges involving them to wind their way through the court system (which is by no means guaranteed to reverse them; see how many gun laws have survived Bruen without SCOTUS even taking the cases) before taking any action to undo their effects,

or ignore them under a guarantee of future prosecution anywhere the Left (re)gains control.

“Wait! Trump Breaking news, this just in …”

“Wait! More Trump breaking news, this just in …

  16. So, turns out that I have gone a wee bit insane again.

As is well known, addressing climate change pretty much requires mass murder. Carbon, as the climate scientists understand their definition, is effectively a proxy for human lives. And the slow strangulation cannot kill enough in time, therefore fast killings are the only way for any of us to live, if those predictive models are correct. (1)

The old news is that of the world powers, the power closest to being able to pull off the necessary divide and exterminate strategy is the US of A. The US of A still has a number of intractable obstacles, but, say, 3% is more than 0.001%.

Specialists in the field understand that mass murder not only requires equipment, and some number of actual supporters, it also requires propaganda to motivate fighters, and also to completely dehumanize the target population.

The new insight is that this also has a specific challenge that happens to be very suited to trolling a group of people who I feel deserve to be offended.

Thanks to all that NATO collaborative stuff, there are a lot of US military officers inclined to think that the politicians, officials, military officers, and academics of western Europe might possibly be human beings.

So, what we need for divide and exterminate is not just more climate research that will remain unpersuasive, but also a lot of unpersuasive research purporting to demonstrate that no one in Europe is a human being.

This leads to a stupid argument that would be best argued in a satire of one of those TDS FSOs. That being that US interests are served by allowing Putin’s actions to stand, because the precedent in international law thus established is well suited to the propaganda campaign against the Euros. Stupid argument, because precedent is pretty ill-relevant for divide and exterminate.

Anyway, it would be in character for a TDS FSO to argue that Trump should not use muscular foreign policy to achieve an early victory for Ukraine.

Putin’s denazification and sphere of influence arguments have the obvious utilities for US actions against Russia and or the EU.

(Under EU speech laws, by implication Nazi parties are a regional product, and have headquarters in Berlin. )

Anyhow, thanks for helping me talk myself out of putting much work into my latest iteration of unnecessary silliness.

    (1) I’m certain that the models are not correct. I’m certain that they were not built to the standards appropriate to making decisions involving that level of harm, and that the oversight was not adequate.
