The picture is from a week and a half ago. We won’t have new ones till we return on the 1st or so. That expression is because I called her name, while she was asleep (trying to get her to look at the camera.)
We had a phone call at about nine thirty from the veterinarian ICU nurse (and yes, again I passed out and slept since. Sorry to be so late letting you know.)
Tiny Helena is improving, still by tiny little bits. Improved enough she’d pulled out her catheter overnight, and also sitting up and holding up her own head most of the time. Her eyes are clear, and she’s aware people are there. She is still not eating, so they’re still feeding her.
So, the anti-viral is working and she is improving. Not fully out of danger (till she’s eating on her own) but almost there.
Thank you for the prayers and please keep them up. I promise to send pics and video of her when she’s okay and we’re home. (Which at this rate will probably be at the same time.)
It’s going to hurt money wise, but I don’t care. There is a chance I get my tiny pretty back.
Hope she’s doing better.
I’ve looked for you at LibertyCon with no luck. Are you home with Helena?

I’m at Libertycon. I’ll be at the con suite in about half an hour, then the dealer’s room. I’m on the program and have panels.
The only panel I missed was because the bar was glacially slow at bringing us food last night.

I’m staying at the Chattanoogan across the street and popped back for lunch and whiskey. I want to see the State of Self-publishing panel at 1400, but I’ll come by the Dealers Room first to try to say hi.
There is a Cat Cafe just about ten minutes south of town, if you’re interested.

My crazy mind.
I was remembering Sarah’s original plans for Tiny Helena and her Brother Indy. IE Leaving them at home.
Fortunately, Sarah changed her mind and bordered them with the vet so the vet was available to spot the problem.
Well, several years ago (when I was around fifteen), one weekend the plans were that I would be going on a scouting campout but my scout-master KILLED that plan when he learned he learned that Dad & Mom would be out of town attending Dad’s high-school reunion.
Dad didn’t get p*ssed off very much but he did then so I went with my parents out-town.
So there I was alone in my grand-mother’s house and I was started to feel bad.
Well, when my parents got to my grand-mother’s house, they got me to the emergency room and it turns out that my appendix had to be removed. [Crazy Grin]
Everything went well and everybody was glad that I hadn’t go on that Campout.
So Thank God that Sarah left Tiny Helena at the vet. [Very Big Grin]

We had a “feeling”. Trust me, we’re both very grateful for this.

In 1976, I was visiting family Back East, and $OLDEST_BROTHER started to feel really bad. I was the designated driver ($MIDDLE_NIECE was a few days old), and after the usual (and some unusual*) fun and games, he was diagnosed with both appendicitis and an inflammation of a Meckel’s diverticulum. So, he got the two-for-one procedure. (SIL was somewhat snappish–think Arthur’s older brother in the Familiar stories–so I was glad to get home. Can’t say I blame her, but she could make the Senior Hunter nervous.)
Fast forward two weeks. I start to feel sick, and the sore spot goes THERE. Ochit. Made the mistake of telling the doc why I suspected appendicitis, so some skepticism, plus I didn’t hit the ceiling with pressure. OTOH, the surgeon head of the clinic had seen this before, so I got the trip to the hospital. No Meckel’s, and the usual (for 1976) 4 day stay in hospital with cool scar.
Brother and SIL sent a get well card with “There’s a lot of that going around”. SIL can be a pain in the tail, but she does have a sense of humor. She just hides it reallllly well.
(*) Barium X-ray. I didn’t get that one, just a chest X-ray “because the state says so”.

I was at a healing mass today for my sister. I found myself praying for Sarah Hoyt’s cat too. I don’t think I ever prayed for a cat before.
Last night was Saint John’s eve but we didn’t light a bonfire. It was raining and we’ve become soft.

Thank you. THANK YOU.
Oh, heavens. I forgot St. John’s Eve. It’s big in Porto. I should have found a bonfire

At her weight it is the not eating that is bad. She doesn’t have the weight to lose.
I am glad she is responding to the anti-viral and IV feedings.
Prayers ongoing. Have fingers crossed for her too.

They are feeding her intravenously and through syringe in mouth. She’s eating, just not on her own.

However much I reduce the financial pain later won’t hurt me at all. Although I will be grumbling as I enter the card number about how those prices have spiraled since my Dad was in practice.

On news from Bits. Just heard back from the veterinarian on the pathology report. Good news. Pathology confirmed feline mast cell cancer. Confirmed that the area excised with the growth to ensure all the growth was gotten, was mast cell free, meaning all the cancer cells were removed. Pathology also reported that type, in felines, is unlikely to reoccur. Veterinarian did say we need to keep an eye for bumps just in case because kitties don’t read medical journals. Reported to veterinarian that Bits is leaving the stitches alone (so far).

Good news, indeed.
Kat-the-dog seems to be getting used to the workers around the house, (three more days if weather and Murphy are willing to cooperate, though I’m not ruling out 4-5), and the lower GI distress seems to be gone. We’re limiting the goodies she gets, but she seems to be tolerating kibble with goodies (much diluted from when the problems started) well.
As border collies go she’s quite small (40 pounds), so we get worried when she can’t deal with food.
Thinking about sick companions and when I remember to pray, praying for Helena and the others.

Pepper is only 23#s, down from 25#’s. Finally! She still needs to lose another 5 to 8#s. Vet wants her at 15#s, max 18#. It is one thing to need her to lose weight. It is another for her to stop eating altogether, which happens when she gets *stressed, GI upset, or decides she is tired of her kibble. The last generally I can wait out under “she’ll eat if she is really hungry” test of **wills. The former two? If she won’t take the dried liver, or gasp, cheese? Something is wrong.
