A Gathering of Huns

There has been an attempt to get local(ish) members of this crowd together at Pete’s Kitchen — 1962, Colfax, in Denver — for a pre-thanksgiving feast.  We’ve been favoring tomorrow at around 3pm but there is a disruption in the force (chill.  I can too mix references.)

Older son a) has signs of a stomach bug — which might or might not have affected the rest of us and it would be truly bad to get ya’ll sick to take back to your families. (Unless, of course, you don’t like your families?)  b) Older and younger son have tests all through Monday and Tuesday.  That means if we come up it would be without them, and this occasions major rebellion from the younger downtrodden (AH! they wish) masses in the household, because they love Pete’s Kitchen.

So — sound off.  How many of you could make it Wednesday the 17 27th (This is what happens when you type with a cat on your lap.  Kids, don’t pet and type!) at a dinnerish hour?  How many would even be interested?

      1. Only 900 miles. Woo Hoo!

Sadly, the only place I can talk DH into going is the coast. I don’t suppose you have a nice ocean view with sandy beaches nearby?

          1. Can we just split them off into their own little island? That would give us three times the beachfront property!

        1. gingeroni, if you can wait a bit, when the Rio Grande Rift reactivates, the Gulf of Mexico will extend up to central NM – TorC area at least. Just ignore the volcanic ash – it’ll only be a problem with an east wind.

          1. Never realized the Rio Grande was on a rift. I’m more familiar with Balcones Fault. When do we get our west coast beach?

  1. I’m a thousand miles or so away, so I can’t. But, on the other hand, we’ve had a couple of changes in the numbers coming for Thanksgiving, and a couple of empty spaces at the table. Unless one of the kids have a change in plans.

  2. I have noticed a bunch of us hail from the NorthWet, er, West. But, considering my anti-social work schedule (Second Shift) does anybody want to avoid the Black Friday crowds together?

    1. I’ve never understood the appeal of a whole mob of people going out to do something I hate to do anyways. (shopping)

I grew up over there, but don’t live there any more, so I’ll have to beg off on that offer also.

    1. She changed it to the 27th. (Before I could kid her about the mistake). [Wink]

Unfortunately, I live too far away to come and kid her in person. [Frown]

  3. That’s an interesting idea, but I’ll have to pass this time. I’ll stay up in Fort Collins for now. I’ve never considered myself a Hun, more of a Barbarian instead. However, I am of Hungarian descent. Hmmmm, Hun, Hungarian. Well, I never thought of that before!

  4. I am only a beginning Hun, with a spouse and a 3-yearold Hunlet, but we are certainly within range, and have no other dinner plans…

  5. I fear that Colorado Springs is too far to drive. Also husband is only being unchained from work on Thursday. If he’s lucky, he’s let out to sleep.

  6. Wednesday is sorta okay for me, but it is rather a long drive and I would have to cut time in order to be home for Thanksgiving dinner. Does Pete’s do carry-out?

  7. Perhaps you should zero in on “dinner” – I believe the time posted in the Diner was about 7pm. To a lot of people, “dinner” happens around noon :-)

  8. I’d love to make it — for a number of reasons: a) so I could meet Sarah and the family, b) so I could check out Pete’s to see if it’s as good as Sarah says it is, and c) so I could get out of making dinner Wednesday night. Unfortunately, several very EXPENSIVE emergencies have hit this month, and we’re looking at the need to borrow gas money to get to my daughter’s Thanksgiving afternoon for the traditional family dinner. Maybe next year…

    1. Whoever wrote that list has a seriously flawed sense of famous, Heinlein is about the only name I even recognize on it. The most famous Missourian list doesn’t include such household names as Jesse James and Cole Younger?

      1. In fairness, that list is only the current nominees. You probably don’t want to know who has already been inducted, even though some (e.g., Rush Limbaugh) are unquestionably more famous than Robert A. Heinlein.

  9. I’d like to meet Sarah and the gang and I’m only 10 blocks away. I’ve only posted here once or twice I think, but I’m a Libertarian and was very active in politics back in the 80’s and 90’s and still follow it closely.

What time to meet at Pete’s on the 27th?

  10. Seventeen hours there, seventeen hours back, going to have a twelve-hour working day before and after… darnit, where’s a tardis when I need one?

    Y’all have fun :-)

      1. Aside from my aged and infirm mother, I am the oldest of the group. Which means I need to worry about pulling something.
